We have the same NOA1 date on January 28th. The latest approved application that I have seen on Igor's List is January 14th so we are getting closer. I'm so appreciative that we are being processed at the California Service Center and it's good to see the applications that are steadily being approved each week. I just enjoy seeing our number in the list going decreasing each day, which means more and more applications are being approved and then we're are next. I think it is very important at this time to make all the necessary preparations with your home and to look into what type of employment your soon to be spouse may be interested in once he/she is approved to work. This website's forums are phenomenal and very informative, so you can also read them and be knowledgeable of next steps in the process after the application is approved. Yes of course, that will be great. Very nice to meet you. I live here in Houston, Texas. I must say that I have learned so much about immigration processes and I have a newly found respect for those that have endured this process. Our hearts do not care about race or culture or another country. It's amazing how love finds us in the not so obvious places. I'm excited and I'm so glad to have true love!

As it comes closer to the expected date my pessimistic side starts to throw up what if’s, which are starting to stress me out.

The biggest one is the looming fear of RFE, which while not a big deal, does complicate things for us. We are both outside the US currently, but the RFE will be sent to a US address, which means returning any information will be problematic.

I'm in a very similar situation and I'm also dreading an RFE. Just try not to think about it. Ive seen many people get an RFE and then be approved within a week after sending in the requested info. So if we do get RFEs, hopefully it doesn't slow things down too much.

For some reason I was thinking the same thing today about RFEs and I looked at a RFE master list and found some RFEs issued in early 2015 such as proof of U.S. Citizenship for Petitioner when a birth certificate was already included. I saw another one that could apply to us as well and thought "Oh great, I hope I don't get an RFE"....

Sooo I just decided I'd stop looking and just wait and see what happens LOL

Yea... I made that mistake as well.

Though, I did it before we submitted, so we included both birth certificate and passport...

But... I didn't consider the IMBRA part, which in hindsight is annoying, because I was in two minds about including the websites terms and conditions, which apparently is what they could, though hopefully don't, request.

I've heard variously from people who have been accepted with no RFE that they didn't have to supply these, so I'm hopeful.

But...

Knowing my luck, they'll accept that, and find something else to RFE, like... a spelling mistake, a missed tick box, using crayon for the application...

Another one though that I didn't think about was that I didn't specifically state we would be marrying in the state of California (same sex couple here) and apparently they issued an RFE in 2015 to a couple for not stating the state. I just didn't think it was necessary since it's a reasonable assumption from my letter of intent and also a safe assumption I'd be marrying in my current state where I live, work and own property in

I don't actually recall if we said what state we'd be marrying in...

So if you haven't already done this, go to the USCIS.GOV site and create your account. Once you create it, log into your case. When you scroll down about the middle of the page you should see you case number. Next to that if should give you an option to turn off and on your notification for Email and Phone text. I am glad I did this, because I got notified 11pm last night of my approval of the application(which should be the NOA2). Just want to share that with everyone else.

If you can arrange for a family member or a friend to get your mail and if indeed a RFE has been sent for your attention then they can scan the document and send it to you as a PDF. You look it over and if it can replied to from where you are then I suggest doing so. If it is a little more complicated then that, I am sure you will find a solution to move a mountain to be with each other forever.

Congratulations! I did this and when I clicked on the button to turn the alert on, I didn't see it click by changing color or anything. It just looked the same so then I became concern whether the alerts were turned on or not. Do I need to access the website on my laptop?

That's a good suggestion. Another way to stay up with your application, not just now but all the way through to your naturalization is the phone app. They're free and they will be checking the website for you and once something has changed you will get a notification. Here are the links:
