I'm not sure a fee waiver would work for a k1 visa since you have to prove that you can afford to live here. So saying you can't afford a form (even though it is really expensive, I agree) is kinda hinting that you can't afford to live here in the government's eyes

Not really. For example a $10 an hour job = 1600 a month. After taxes call it 1400. So you save $800 for rent and utilities $300 for food $100 for necessities. And $100 for some other randomness. You wouldn't be using public assistance nor in any way show that you are going to become a public charge. I don't qualify, but I think its doable, but only if you have a co-sponsor I would assume. Or you're barely over the income. It says you must be under 150% for the waiver. But k1 is 125% so if you make between the two you are eligible.

He doesnt work as yet but does make a little bit online. I just barely made it for sponsorship without a co sponsor. But yes that is right you think how much you make but the government taxes the hell out of you and then to live and pay your bills. You aren't left with much. And since you have to start the process so soon after getting married its rather hard for some people to use that "left over money" after bills to come up with 1070.

This made me smile a bit, in Denmark we pay 50% in taxes so here I'm surprised how little you pay. Of course you then have to pay health insurance and stuff but still.

Well that was a side note I get what you mean and you can try to apply for the waiver the worst there can happen is a no.

Thank you! But depending when you filed AOS many K1 are getting interviews waived since we already went through all that! Less than four months for us and no RFIE. Word on the street is if u hear nothing for a few months after biometrics you'll probably get waived the interview.

Sent in our aos beginning of october. Still seen or heard nothing. They havent cashed the check yet but I know it was delivered. How long did it take to know they are reviewing it?

Our check was cashed in s few days after receipt. It really varies by case worker and home office but, I've seen many go even faster than ours did. And many still way behind. Our receipt numbers worked pretty much this entire time.

When you get those you'll start to see progress fast for biometrics letter... after that it's SLOW

We sent our AOS in about 2 weeks ago and got our NOA1 last friday. It took around a week for them to receive it (sent it monday, delivered wednesday, email received next monday) then we got the papers that friday.

I had heard that if you got the interview waived you'd wait longer for the Green Card vs being scheduled for an interview. But a couple K-1 cases I was tracking out of the LA office had their interview waived and did indeed receive their GC soon after.

We're hoping and crossing our fingers for GC approval in time for March/April so we can plan a summer vacation/visit with my wife's family in Mexico.

Frustrating for us. Sent in about the same time as you. Requested email notification and nothing yet. It was delivered in 3 days.
