so uscis nebraska asked for RFE on may 16 and i send them RFE by 20th may any idea how long i have to wait to get my NOA2. please reply soon i'm really worried. :clock:

I got an RFE on Saturday about my husband's Pakistani divorce papers. He went to the Union Council today and was told that what he sent in was the best. It was a Deed of Divorce from NADRA,which my husband explained is the most updated source. They couldn't believe that USCIS would not accept his Deed of Divorce. They kept saying "we looked that up twice, we gave you the papers." And he kept showing them the paper from the USCIS (RFE)that says he has to have a Union Council divorce certificate. He said he actually ended up shouting at them, and I have NEVER heard my husband shout at anyone in 5 years...he's a peacemaker basically.

Anyway, he is to return tomorrow, and, of course, he had to pay a fee. I am praying that he gets the correct paper. I worry because I am leaving to spend the summer with him in 2 weeks, so I will not have access to any paperwork that USCIS might send through US Mail until mid-July. This is so depressing.

Once we send in the papers, if they are the correct ones, any idea how long it might take for us to get a NOA2? This is making both of us just sick, since we have been trying to be together for the past 3 years.

Thanks for listening!

Good morning VJ,

I also got a RFE because we never got married through civil but only a traditional wedding. Now they are saying that in the country of Mexico is not valid. Before my wife and I decided to get married I had inquired at my local USCIS office if we could only get married through a religious ceremony and once my wife got her visa to come over the US we were planning to get over here through civil. They said it would ok as long there was a traditional wedding. Also I did send my marriage certificate from the church we got married from.

Has anyone gone through this scenario that you on got married through a traditional ceremony and later a civil?

Thank you in advance for your input..

I think you're going to need a civil marriage in Mexico. Look at the reciprocity tables for what is required.

I imagine you need a marriage certificate from the Mexican government which is then translated.

You're still within the timeframe. Likely it will come this week or next.

Look at this set of statistics (Igor's List) and you'll see there are several people from January still waiting for approval. It seems like 7-10 people from each month don't come back to update, but there are still 18 from January, which means they're still working on January. You filed about three weeks behind me, and I got NOA 2 about four weeks ago; Nebraska sped up but then slowed down slightly.
