Yesterday I was to talk with an officer on uscis local office in Pittsburgh. There was a very nice lady and she told me that most of cases go to local offices but a small number of petition still on NBC. And mine is still on NBC. For this reason they not approve it yet. She say will send my request there. I hope next week to have a surprise. Today I have 4 months....

4 months is too long.

Glad at least the officer was nice to you.

My case is also likely to be sitting in NBC. They still haven't produced my EAD/AP card after approval a month ago and the I-485 doesn't budge from "Fingerprint Fee Was Received".

Going to InfoPass on Monday.

We are still waiting on movement on ours as well, Pittsburgh is our local office. Ours must be at NBC too.

Howdy folks.

Sent the AOS package earlier this year and arrived; "On January 25, 2016, we accepted the fingerprint fee for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status".

Haven't heard anything since. We received receipts and email receipts, but so far nothing else. No biometrics appointment yet, no updates and nothing else in the mail. I notice some others in similar situations?

Figured I'd sign up and chime in.

1) Speak to Tier 2 rep immediately. You should have received Biometrics notice months ago. Typically takes 2-3 weeks to receive Biometrics appointment notice. If not, there's a good chance your mail was lost and your appointment already passed. And we all know that's not a good thing.

2) Make an Infopass appointment.

1) How would I go about doing this? Do they have an email? You mention this isn't a good thing, how big a roadblock is this to fix? I'm now concerned.

2) What is this? I visited the site. Am I to assume it's a physical appointment where someone tells you where things are?

Call them on 1-800-375-5283. Request to speak to a tier 2 representative as they are invariably immigration officers and are more experienced in answering more detailed queries. Certainly ask why there is a hold up to your case.

Don't panic as once they realise your case is behind they should move you in to the next stage.

You have lost quite a few weeks in the process by not following up on your case quickly enough. If you have not changed address be sure to mention that to the officer when you call so they know it's an issue their end.

I assume you haven't moved (if you have then you need to update your address!)

Yes an infopass appointment does allow you to speak to someone face to face. It might allow you to explain your case better and for you to understand what the next steps are.

Thanks! I think I'll go with the infopass. I'm not very good with dealing with people over the phone. Assuming this would achieve the same means to the end as calling?

And yeah, I wish I had known sooner but unfortunately their notification system leaves something to be desired. What would make sense would be for some form of active appointment list to show up when you check your case status online. We haven't changed address so it's definitely something their end/the mail system.

That way if you don't receive something in the mail you're aware of when it should be.

I suppose things like this are why this forum is so useful what with the lack of information/updates provided by them!

I'm on their website at the moment. Which seems more appropriate to my situation in your opinion?

- You need Service on a case that has already been filed.

or

- You need information or other services

I'd pick the second, but I'm not entirely sure what constitutes "filing" in their eyes.

or is there another more commonly chosen option for situations like this?

I ended up choosing "You need information or other services." as the others gave very specific reasons for making an appointment.

Scheduled the InfoPass for a couple of days from now.

I also put in a help request via myUSCIS, but went ahead with the InfoPass too as it said it could take a while to get a response.

Fingers crossed this can all be ironed out quickly.

Edit: Anyone with a hyphenated name have any experience with using InfoPass' site? It all went through fine, but their online system turns any hyphenated name into one by removing it and pushing them together. I imagine this is just a limitation of the system and wont affect anything right?

Looks like you chose the right option.

As for hyphenated names, my wife has one and yes on certain systems (govt, banks, employer) it doesn't recognise hyphens so does what you said. Not encountered any issues when this happens mind, although we haven't done an info pass.... Yet!

Hi everybody,

I have a question. I got the answers for EAD &AP, but they were only as notification of aprovement, usualy paper document, not as a card. Do they post the card at a later time?

In fact my san, got his AP CARD at the same day with the norification of aprovement for his EAD,. Luckier than me :)

Any answers from your experiences ??

We got notified online about our EAD/AP approval on the same day. Had the card in our hands a week later. After the card came we got the letters of approval. So the system is kinda wonky at times but you will get a card soon.

I have a question for you all. The Tier 2 rep today informed me that my case is still at NBC. I am moving in two weeks for my new job to the midwest, which will change my field office for the green card interview. My spouse will remain at our current east coast address for her job until mid-August 2016. So, if the interview takes place by mid-July at the latest, we may be able to get the GC at our current east coast address (which for our GC financial evidence, etc. is our primary residence until mid-August).

Our lawyer has advised against changing address for as long as possible citing USCIS errors related to address change. I have heard horror stories of endless delays for address change at VJ. As far as USCIS not updating my new address is concerned, that will not be an issue since my wife will remain in the previous address until mid-August.

My questions are:

1. Now that our case is still at NBC, is now a good time to change address? That way our AOS file will only need to be sent to the new field office from NBC, and not have to go through the NBC to the current field office, and then re-directed to the new field office.

2. The current USCIS field office is Boston, and if we change the address, the new field office will be Chicago. Do you think this may move up the interview queue for us?

Any thoughts?

My local office is also Fairfax. I read your other posts and saw the receive date of your packet was on Jan 29, mine was on Jan 28. I called USCIS yesterday asking about my GC process. The guy told me my file was still at NBC! I thought my file would be at least pending at local office already. Anyways, according to the timeline they provided me, NBC is currently dealing with I485 cases from October 25 and the local office is dealing with cases from July 2015. It sounds quite long.

I got my EAD/AP combo card in the mail today! Online case status never updated, it's still stuck on 'case received' even though I have my card in hand. The system is indeed a bit wonky, but I am glad the card is finally here! Yours may be on the way too if our receipt dates and field offices are similar. However, I also had talked to my congressman's office to try to expedite the process last week, since I have an international trip pending and needed the advance parole. They said they will try to help. I don't know if it arrived so fast because of them, or if it was just it's natural timing (it's day 100+ by now..). Hope yours arrives soon too!

Thanks for the updates. I actually didn't file EAD/AP until last week, I currently have one through my F1 status already. I'm on my 95 days and still have no words about my I485/I130 yet.
