January 2016 AOS Filers

Not completely true...I follow this thread to fuel my impatience, and see how other January filers' cases are progressing. I'm breaking my usual lurking silence as this might cheer up other Jan filers:

We filed on Jan 14th, had biometrics done on Feb 8th and notice for interview scheduled for March 29th.

Congratulations! That's great news. Did you file from K-1 status or another visa type? What is your local USCIS office? I hope things move fast for the rest of us as well.

Doing AOS from B1/2 visa. Local office should be Fresno.

Congrats on that, it's good to know there is progress being made. So what happens at the interview at this stage exactly?

I guess at the interview my spouse and I convince the officer I'm not here for the privilege of permanent residence, but to just be with my spouse.

Hmm, that makes sense. Adjusters from visa that are technically not meant for adjusting (VWP, J1, B...) pretty much always get interviewed. Us K1ers have already interviewed in our home countries and have a 50/50 chance for interview waiver. These cases typically take a bit longer.

In any case, good luck with your interview you will be fine.

So, I just checked my case status and I got a "Request for Initial Evidence". Feeling kinda bummed right now. Is that any different than the Requests For Evidence or it just means we screwed up sooner in the process? Haha

Don't worry. Sometimes REF's are really 'simple' for some mistake in the document, lack of signature or gathering a missing document. You will be fine. Keep us posted.

Called USCIS this morning for my biometrics appt letter. They faxed it to me few minutes ago.

It's this Friday.

So, I just checked my case status and I got a "Request for Initial Evidence". Feeling kinda bummed right now. Is that any different than the Requests For Evidence or it just means we screwed up sooner in the process? Haha

Initial Evidence is the kind that halts processing of all other pending applications until the request is satisified. Additional evidence doesn't do that. Hope your letter comes fast and you can deal with it easily.

I actually did not realize until now that there is 'initial' and 'additional' evidence request.

Well, I just filed a service request because t's been over 30 days since the Fingerprincs fee was received and I never got the biometrics letter. I don't know what the magic words are to speak to Tier 2, every time I've called the person on the phone has flat out refused to transfer me. Now I have to wait another month to inquire about this service request.

Keep calling and insist on being transferred. They are not supposed to refuse you. I wouldn't wait for the service request to pan out - your biometrics may be very soon and you risk missing it and having to reschedule which is a pain...

I will call with my hubby as well. Did you have to talk to a Tier 2 to get them to fax it to you?? feeling anxious right now. We don't have a fax machine, any chances they will email it??

Now I have to wait another month to inquire about this service request.

I agree with TabeaK, I would not wait another month, those people that answer at first usually don't know much, so I would keep calling, or ask what is the reason why they do not want to transfer you

Ok, well I called back and finally was transferred, although the guy was very reluctant to do it and kept saying that there's nothing more Tier 2 could do for me.

I wasn't given the option to hold once transferred, I got a message saying they would call me back in about 35 minutes using the number I'd called them from. It's been 45 minutes now, hopefully they really will call me back soon. I really don't feel like calling back and having to try to convince yet another person to transfer me.

They never refused me to transfer. The reason that I give everytime is "I know you cannot access to some information, and I would need to talk to a Tier 2 for having further information on my case".

They transfer me all the day. I asked the transfer at least in 4 phone calls. Succeeded all 4 times.

Yes, I had to talk to a Tier 2.

I don't think they would email it. But you can trying to ask. I am not sure.
