Went to SSA to update my citizenship. Waited for 3 hours to be called. they asked for valid ID and proof of Citizenship and Be sure to bring your current SS card. They will ask for your SS card and they checked if the names are the same. If the names on the certificate and your SS card doesnt match. They will take your current SS card and mail you an updated SS card with same number matching the name on your US Citizen certificate they will give you a print receipt letter. . I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. Does the SSA office need to see the original proof of citizenship ( Nat. certificate ).?

The process here is somewhat the same, long long waiting lines, like a long snake coiled around the building. People come with chair, campers, drinks and refreshments an hour early. Its an adventure by itself.

i think there is one form to be filled from the website, along with your drivers lic, and Nat. certificate, present SSN card and finally I think some proof of your date of birth (proof of birth ).

I would have gone this week but my nat. certificate is gone for passport.

Yes, SSA needs the original.

Anyway, USCIS says it needs to wait for at least 2 weeks to be updated in DHS system so wait for 2 weeks after ceremony to visit SSA office. I applied for passport next day after ceremony, then went to SSA when I received my certificate back. It took for 3 weeks to get passport and certificate

Yes, I did the same, applied for passport soon after the ceremony.

The toll free numbers at the SSA are not working, i gave up after 30 minute wait. Few people tell me that copy of certificate is enough, so there is conflicting information. Will wait till I get my certificate back.

You need to bring the USC certificate ( they will make a copy) Proof of Identity DL or Passport. They asked and checked for my SS card to check if the names matches on both USC cert and SS card. My name on the card only has Middle name initials while my certificate has a complete middle name. the SSA officer took my old SS card and told me Im going to get a new card with the same number and same name in on my certificate.

It's from instruction to the social security card application

As you see the SSA requires originals or certified copies of documents

I had my citizenship interview today, but even though I passed the test I still need to submit more documents (N-14), and my experience was extremely unpleasant.

My officer was so rude and I just felt so humiliated all throughout, he was grumbling throughout the interview, and when I asked him to repeat his question he threw a louder grunt and say the words one-by-one.

I have no complains about the additional documents he's asking. Their records showed that I exited the US and came back a year later, which is not true based on the documents I am submitting, but the entire experience was so negative it got me so disappointed and humiliated.

I'm sorry for such a bad experience. Your entire process is not easy, I would say with obstacles - the mail with your biometric and interview notices were sent to the wrong addresses and such a terrible interview now.

I'm sure you will be approved right away when IO gets your submitted documents.

Good luck to you! You are going to be a US citizen soon! (F)

Done. I had my citizenship today in San Diego. I couldn't ask for a better experience. My officer was a young American man, he was very polite and made me feel relaxed. While siting in the waiting area I've seen other officers coming in/out and they were older and Philippino/ Vietnamese/ Mexican race. They looked very angry and people that were leaving their offices looked stressed. I am saying that just because I've got a feeling that these officers in a past probably also immigrated and now acting weird. Back to my experience.

15 minutes interview and I am waiting for my Oath Ceremony, the officer promised me the end of July. He was also very kind helping me with my petition of changing my first name. I know I am almost the last one in this thread getting citizenship, but still wanted to share my excitement with you.

My husband had his interview and was approved almost two months ago and still no oath ceremony letter. The online status says "oath ceremony will be scheduled"... No idea why it's taking so long other than he is requesting a name change so I know that has to be a more formal court naturalization ceremony but I still thought those were fairly often?

Their website says that they have 2 to 8 judicial ceremonies per month.

Assuming that they've had closer to 2 the last 2 months and that they are small ceremonies, it is possible that his turn just hasn't come around yet. You could try looking up the website of the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania See if their ceremony schedule is posted there. If you find that they've had lots of ceremonies over the last two months, then you might want to contact USCIS and see what's going on. But if there have only been three ceremony since he was naturalized, then you might want to give it a little more time.
