translation question

we are preparing packet 3 without yet having actually received it.

everything I've read (including a copy of the embassy's instructions on their letterhead) says that all documents in any language other than English need to be translated, and by a certified service.

fiance insists a Thai language forum says that the standard documents (birth cert, single cert, police cert if clean) DON'T need to be translated if they are in thai.

I can read street signs and menus in Thai but not her forum.

I'm looking from anyone who has personal experience of not translating their Thai docs for us embassy bkk.

my own feeling: better safe than sorry, we should translate them (we have to translate her ex's death certificate which establishes her custody of her son, so why not a few more pages?)

From packet 3 from the embassy's website. "All documents not in English or Thai must be accompanied by certified English translations." We did not have anything translated from Thai to English when we went through packet 3.

I must say it is a different version from 4+ years ago but the same information is still there. Good luck with your journey and happy new years.

All Thai documents in packet3 don't need to be translated. I went to the interview in November and had no problem at all.

the version of the form I downloaded from the embassy websight, dated Jan 2015, says everything must be in English. obviously that's not the case.

I would have the birth certificate translated, not for the interview at the embassy, but for whenever you need it again in the US.
