Heavily armed domestic terrorists have occupied a wildlife preserve in Oregon and invited other extremists to take up arms and join the movement. Calling themselves "patriots" the followers of Cliven Bundy are protesting the impending imprisonment of two ranchers on arson charges. The anti-government radical leader has long challenged restrictions on grazing his cattle on Federal land. Neither the human rights organizations that track domestic hate groups, nor those of us who study violent extremism are surprised by this latest development. We are, however, puzzled by one thing: Why do virtually all media outlets dignify these people by calling them "militiamen?" They are terrorists, pure and simple.

i don't know why you're comparing black lives matter to white militiamen, i mean come on brah..one is a bunch of lazy, easily offended protestors - trying to demand equal value of lives from peace officers (haha) and the other is an organized, trained, get er done, armed militia trying to demand property and freedum (without restriction of peace officers) for a family that apparently wants nothing to do with them...oops.

well gee, i'm just going by what the patriots said..they're in in for the long haul - years if need be. now take off yer hat and assume the position.

(entire point is that the government is working very hard to reach some sort of compromise with these defenders of liberty, the fact that they have been afforded the time to run out of moon pies, coffee, and beer speaks volumes. goal here is no lives lost, everybody happy at the end of the standoff, calling it a standoff seems false though, is anyone threatening their freedom space? any liberty lies being crossed?)

The sagebrush Rebellion lives again!

This pops up now and again whenever the the federal government is a bit heavy handed in how they handle the lands they own. This really boils down to states where the federal government owns a large share of the land (for example they own 86% of all Nevada land) wanting control passed to state and local instead of the federal government.

People that live out in the middle of nowhere on mostly useless land tend to be a bit different... You half expect to see Little Joe and Haus mosey into town.

The western states do have a point about the feds owning a disproportionate share of the land... But you Nimby Easterners need a place for the spent nuclear fuel and bombing ranges
