Anyone have experience buying somewhere around 5 acres of land not in the city something in a province and what it would cost? Also if I were to live in the Philippines but get paid from a job in the United States would I pay taxes in Philippines or anything to be a resident for a long period of time? And last but not least what does the Philippines consider a gun, is it like the US in which the only part is the part with the serial number, or could anything be considered? Any good gun resource websites for the country? I realize I would need to be a citizen to purchase a gun.

It will cost a pretty penny to get a CLEAR/CLEAN TITLE for about 5 acres of land in the provinces. The price for land in the Philippines is pretty expensive espeically for a CLEAN title, and know that YOU can not buy land in the Philippines. It will have to be your fiance/wife to be the land, not you. Where are you wanting to buy at?

The owning of a gun in the Philippines is a pretty expensive process as well in order to buy a legitimate gun. You can buy an Illegal gun pretty cheap off the street.

Do you have a Pinay wife/fiance or are you just planning on moving there? If you are just planning on moving there then there are several other forums you can go to not this one. This forum is primarily for immigrating to the USA not FROM the USA.

It's my understanding if you're not a Philippine citizen you can't buy land there. You can buy a condo but not land. You may have to be born there to buy land. I know people that bought land by the water and no it wasn't very expensive. It was in one of the provinces. My wifes says you can get land pretty cheap. It's not an expensive process. There's an attorney involved so you'll have a clean title to the land.

I wouldn't suggest buying a gun illegally off the streets. You need to check the internet on that stuff. This site is for immigrating to the USA and not about guns. lol

Only Filipino citizen's are allowed to purchase and own land (corporations is an other entity which I have no knowledge of and prefer to not comment on) where as a foreigner can purchase a condominium as long as the entire property is not owned by more than 40% by foreigners. It's best to have a lawyer involved to protect your interests and as others say you want a clean title so it does not come back to bite you in the south end. If you can buy land from a family member then (don't neglect to have a lawyer involved even though it is family) things can go a little easier for the transfer.

Here is an article that outlines the gun requirements. Please note that this article will be 3 years old soon, so buyer be where. http://www.rappler.com/nation/19462-want-to-own-a-gun-here-s-how-easy-it-is

Use google for additional information. Ask questions of others to verify information. Go slow and easy with any of these decisions. You don't want to end up broke or in the pokey.

Yes I realize that the property can't be in my name, nobody has bought land in the Philippines? I figured someone would have experience on the cost... I thought there would be more expats who live there and travel to the U.S. who dealt with taxes and things of that nature.

Your in a forum where most who are here are here to get a Visa and our 'fresh' in that pursuit (green horns sort of). There typically are not Expats here because after they get there visa, they are pretty much finished with VJ and move on to other things. There is a good group over on Mag-Anak Blog that could help you. Also, why don't you do a little research using google to find other expat sites that deal with all things Philippines.

There actually talking about this same topic now about buy property and homes. I think you would be better served at M-A.

You are correct Hank, but I am trying to steer the OP a more suitable forum for expats living in the Philippines. While this forum is primarily for immigration from the Philippines.

Just trying to show the man there are other places that he would be more successful at getting an answer to his questions. After all he wasn't getting many takers here. Another beer for my friend Hank. ;-)
