Hello all,

My spouse wants to change surname name on the UK passport. Can we do this immediately or should we wait? I don't want to jeopardize the AOS process for a little name change. Does it matter since the soon to be old passport will have the K-1 Visa in it?

The actual passport would be mailed to the UK and out of your hands for maybe four to six weeks. Longer if you didn't get the form or documentation required exactly correct. Right now he will need that passport for various ID requirements like biometric appointment, SSN, bank accounts, interview, etc. My suggestion is wait until he has a greencard and U.S. photo ID like a driver license before sending it off.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks, Nich! Totally forgot about all of that!

Do you think it's worth to change surname in original passport? I was thinking to get state ID with new surname after getting green card, and book flights with maiden surname if I need passport for a flight.. Sorry if question is off-topic..

You can do exactly as you said. Take your marriage certificate on any trip to show why the name differences if needed.
