Hey guys!

so I received my green card yesterday and I went today to the SS office to apply for my SSN and they informed me that they had to verify my documents before issuing my card.

there is a paragraph there that says:

If you are not a us citizen and you are applying for a social security number card for employment purposes and your immigration status allows you to work, you may legally begin employment while you await on issuance of a social security card. You cannot work if your immigration status does not authorize you to do so.

obviously having a green card I am able to work, and I just received a possible job offer.. so my question is am I really able to work if I provide this letter and my proof of immigration??

I called the ss office and they were like if the company want to take you then they can take you...

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

The GC (or the EAD if you had applied for and received it sooner) is your official notification that you can legally work.

Since you can get your SSN before you receive these, that SSN card will be stamped Unable to Work without DHS Authorization.

You have the authorization with the GC, so what folks would do in this case is return to the SSA office and they would be issued a new SSN card without this stamping.

Sound like you did not apply for a SSN prior to the GC, so you'll just bypass this step. Yes you are authorized to work and remain eligible to receive a SSN.

All you need to show the employer is your GC. It's golden.
