Religion should be illegal.

Organized religion should be illegal. People shouldn't be told what to believe.

Wouldn't that be doing the very thing you're setting out to prevent? If religion were made illegal, it'd be the government telling you what to believe; in other words, the government would be saying, "do not believe in religion under any circumstances and at any cost!"

I voted no in the poll. I think that no matter what age the child should not be forced into a particular religion.

Should there be an age of consent for going to school?

How is school even remotely similar to religion?

What they teach there could be considered religious tenets (yeah, I pulled it from C&H)

well if you going that route, while I think parents have the absolute right to guide their children spiritually/religiously, I think creationism has no place in school.

You're right, it's hopeless. All it takes is for one person to strongly believe in something and all the sheep will follow.

i was brought up in a Christian household, did some serious "what do I personally believe" soul searching in my teens/ early twenties, and decided what my faith meant to me. Just because I am a Christian does not mean I blindly accept or agree with all parts of organized religion.

You seem to strongly believe that organized religion should be illegal, so should we all start following you like little sheep? It seems you really want us to think the way you do.

I honestly find it horrible if someone actually believes that religion should be illegal. I may not agree with other religions, but I would never say it should be illegal to hold a belief. (As long as that belief does not include an act like murder, or things that are already against the law.) You should be free to believe that a purple hippo created the world if you wanted to, even if it sounds crazy. You shouldn't be arrested for it. And any countries that have attempted to outlaw religion have only caused suffering and oppression for those who did believe in something.

We legislate against many things in this society which we believe are harmful for people. If one were to genuinely believe that religion was as harmful to a childs mind as, say, cocaine or marijuana or LSD... then would it still be 'horrible' of them to feel that way?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Don't most religions have that? You can't participate fully until you're 13- or 14-ish? I know Judaism, Catholicism, and UUism all do.

It seems to me that what you're asking is if it should be illegal to teach children about religion.
