I know this topic is more of a state issue, but what did you guys do?

Can my UK spouse automatically get a US driver's license with the proper identification? Or will they have to go through the process of re-testing both the written and driver portion of the test?

Should we just go over to our local DMV and ask...I know they're always so busy and its such a hassle there so I'm not sure what we should do...any advice?

You can look up your state's web page. I forgot where you are living.

I will say that most states will require you to take a vision, written, and driving test. There a few countries that negotiated reciprocity with each state on driving where an exchange is possible. UK is not one of them. Canada, Germany, France, and South Korea come to mind for my state.

Most likely you get to re-test. Compared to how it is in Europe it's ridiculously easy. I got to drive around the block and I've heard of someone who just had to drive out of a parking lot, into it and park and was done...
