Traveling to Mexico while ROC is Pending

Hi,

I have filed for ROC (filed back in July 2015) and am waiting for the approval. I need to travel to Mexico and I was wondering if there will be any issues with getting into Mexico. For coming back, I know the extension letter would work. To travel to Mexico, I need a "valid US visa". Will the Mexican authorities consider the extension letter as a valid visa?

Should I go get a I-551 stamp on my passport instead? Has anyone been able to get this?

Thanks!
