Hey,

I want to know the difference between an unpaid internship and volunteering. I am currently a F1 visa holder and I want to volunteer for a non profit organization. I see many of my peers volunteering but they go around telling people its an internship and I also read their Resumes and they put their "volunteer" stuff under internship. I know people lie sometimes on their resume but I dont want to caught red handed for saying something I didnt even do and lose my opportunity of getting authorized work after my degree. I also want to do something such as volunteer work or unpaid internship because money is not an issue but I want to gain experience because my resume is completely empty, other then my name and school information. I dont plan on doing anything illegal or lie as well.

I went looking around for non profit organizations and asked them about volunteer work or internship. So what the person told me was that all of their "interns" are unpaid and if i am interested, I come in at my own time (usually only once a week) or when I am free. They told me I was able to come in anytime i like if I needed a quite place to study and all i would do is help with questions from people. Some thing like a docent in a museum. They say I am free to choose to come in if there is something to learn that is part of my major.

Should I take the opportunity or no? or should I just lie on my Resume?

sorry kinda of a resume help as well =/

Thanks
