Car insurance in USA - when to get it?

So I've yet to get my appn't yet for Montreal but I plan on driving over to Utah the first of April to wait for my appn't with my FI in our home in Salt Lake. My car currently has Ontario plates with a sticker that doesn't expire until May 08. My insurance however expires this summer (June I believe). Am I able to to have my car insured with FI's plan while it still has Ontario plates OR do I have to get it registered in Utah and get Utah plates. I would imagine that it is the latter of the two... but was just curious if anyone has encounted this same situation??

Hi,

Maybe you can check with your current insurance and see if they can still cover you while you are in the States.

Our US plate car is in Ontario, but the car is still being covered by an American insurance company. We called up our insurance agent, and informed them... and it's fine.

6/01/07- NVC completes case!

8/30/07-- Interview date! Approved

I-129F transfered to CSC

12/26/06- NOA 1

1/17/07- touch

4/25/07- touch

4/26/07- touch

5/3/07- Approved! :)

5/14/07- NVC confirms receiving K-3 Application

5/16/07- NVC mails K-3 Application to Montreal Embassy

6/12/07- Was put on MTL waiting list
