thank you all so much for your advice. i have schedualed an infopass appointment for feb 1st so hopefully things will pick up from there with the EAD.

i have one more question though. the infopass appointment is in detroit [we live in marquette, MI]. is it possible to have it done in Grand Rapids? its a little less than a 7 hr drive.... should we just try and do it there? i have no appointment letters so i dont know if it would work getting the fingerprints in the Grand Rapids ASC.

is there any way of calling then and finding out?

thanks so much for your help and advice.

From my experience, you need to go the the local USCIS office where you live, so that it is the one that has jurisdiction over your case. I attempted to go the San Francisco office, but since San Jose had jurisdiction over my case, they could not help me there.

Edit: are you talking about ASC for fingerprints or local USC office for Infopass? My comment about is about getting help via Infopass.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

An Infopass appointment is only done at the District Office. The only DO in Michigan is Detroit. Sorry, but you'll have to travel to Detroit to get this sorted out.

The Grand Rapids ASC is only to take biometrics and fingerprints. There are no USCIS immigration officers there that can help you.
