I asked this question but I haven't gotten any clear answer.

Here is the question again: I am a US permanent resident about 1 and half but I work overseas and I was granted the re-entry permit before my departure. I periodically come to the US every 2 or 3 months. When Should I be eligible to apply for the citizenship?

I think according to the USCIS i should be able to apply 4 years and 1 day after my return. Please correct me if I am wrong.

hi

if I'm not mistaken, it depends on how you got your GC, usually once you return, with the reentry permit it counts as you had only been a GC holder for 1 year

so if your spouse is a USC and you got your GC through spousal visa, it's less time, but if it was a family petition or work petition, yes, then you would have to wait 4 years because you are eligible for citizenship at 5 years

I would like to update: I got my green card through a Diveristy Visa lottery

hi

then you have to wait 5 years of being a GC holder for citizenship, so you are correct, 4 years from returning

By the way I haven't been out for six months continuously. Since they said that the clocke stops after six months out. Does that make any change?

hi

no because you have a reentry permit that allows you to be out of the country for 2 years without loosing your GC, but your 2 years of being a GC holder won't count, as it counts as you would have been only a GC holder for 1 year

so in part the clock resets but not because you have been out of the country for over 6 months
