Hi everyone,

My fiance and I just received the letter from NVC that they've forwarded our K1 application to the embassy in Ghana. :) I have a few questions about what to expect next....

1) When should my fiance expect to receive his packet from the embassy? (He receives it in the mail, right?)

2) Does the embassy assign the interview date or can we schedule it?

3) I have TONS of evidence that I want to organize and send to my fiance to bring to the interview. I'm just wondering how I should package it. In a binder? A folder? I know I read something about the window in the embassy being small and people having trouble passing their documents through.

Please advise! Thanks so much!!!

He may not receive anything. I had to contact the embassy in Angola and they asked him to come in to review the next steps.

The embassy at assign an interview date. I believe Ghana likely sees more visa applications so they may have to keep a schedule.

I organized everything in a nice binder with tabs.

Did you front load?

Yea, I did. I sent about 150 pages (hope it's enough) of photos, phone and chat records, letters, travel documents, etc. I have thousands more pages of stuff I'm trying to sort through now for him to bring to the interview.

Hi everyone,

My fiance and I just received the letter from NVC that they've forwarded our K1 application to the embassy in Ghana. :) I have a few questions about what to expect next....

1) When should my fiance expect to receive his packet from the embassy? (He receives it in the mail, right?) they mail a call in letter to him, but the mail system as you might know is very bad there. My fiancé never got his so we ended up in mailing the embassy, they sent him an email to print out and take to the embassy in lieu of the call in letter. When we did the K1 in 2014 they only allowed packet pickups on Wednesdays, you had to go early in th morning, then later in the day go back and pick up the packet and interview date and time they assign you.

2) Does the embassy assign the interview date or can we schedule it? They will assign the date and time.

3) I have TONS of evidence that I want to organize and send to my fiance to bring to the interview. I'm just wondering how I should package it. In a binder? A folder? I know I read something about the window in the embassy being small and people having trouble passing their documents through. Yes, we front loaded a lot more but did bring additional evidence to the interview. We were able to give it the Ghanaians that check you in. But honestly, the CO never looked at any of it. She passed it all back to my fiancé without even opening any of it. The CO had her mind made up before the interview, it was a short, quick interview for us.

Please advise! Thanks so much!!!

Thanks AB loves AG. ... how much did you front load? I did 150 pages, but a lot of that was double sided, so hopefully that was enough. I'm gonna send tons more for the interview, but yea, I heard a lot of people say they don't look at it. Did you go to the interview with your fiance? I really want to, but the problem is I have a new job and don't get vacation days until April. That's why I was wondering if we can schedule the interview or not. Guess we'll have to make do.

Also, how long did you wait before you emailed the embassy after not receiving the mail?

You would have to send email to the embassy inquiring about the packet. They will respond and tell you to inform your fiance to sign in the section at 7am Wednesday for the packet. You may need to send the email to your fiance to print it out. Cos that email will allow him to enter the section. after getting the interview date and instructions to do medical test, then you can have your fiance check in the section again for reschedule of interview and extend it to the time you think you can fly down..

Thanks everyone. So should I wait 4-5 weeks before emailing the embassy? The letter I got from the NVC was dated 12/21/15.... so should I give it until the end of January, and then email? Or should I now?

I sent probably about 300 pages of evidence, all single sided, plus about 50 pictures. Yes, I went to the interview to be there with my fiance, I really think it is what greatly helped our approval. It was interesting because the CO never called me to the window, but had made a comment to my fiance that she knew I was there. Either she had been watching us on cameras or probably because I was the only white person there...lol lol.

We waited about a month to email them because the letter never showed up. You may be able to somewhat control the interview date, if I remember right, you have 120 days to have the interview after the NOA2. So maybe you could delay in emailing them and picking up the packet 3, as that is the day they will set your interview date. Maybe others can chime in if this is still accurate for Ghana. It really will help with you being there, although a lot also depends on your case. For example, how much face time have you had, how did you meet, when did you meet, have you met his family, etc.....

Please make sure you include your case number and receipt number in your email so they can use to search for your packet ..it took only 3 working days for us to hear from them.
