Today I saw an episode of 90 day fiance where the family members were disapproving of the fiance and questioning whether the intentions of the beneficiary was true love or getting a green card? I personally haven't dealt with this lately but in the beginning there were some questions. Any thoughts

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

No issues with my family. We've known each other for so long before we got married, and our parents get on very well too. If anything it's opened my parent's eyes to the difficulty of the immigration system and how it really works vs what the media/tv says. There were always questions and odd comments from persons that can't generally understand how LDRs would ever work, but I think our commitment and staying power silenced them by now.

You calmly state your decision once or twice and you do not 'defend' your choices.

If they still don't get it then you stop the conversation politely and say something like I would have thought you

had more respect for my choices I make in life for a spouse, thanks but I got this !

If you aren't confident in your own choice they pick up on it like raw meat and want to 'save you' from the wrong decision. Own it.

They come around once they continue to see you happy and meeting the fiance/spouse in person themselves in time.

Sept. 21 Interview, 2 hour interview, we were separated and asked about 50 questions each for an hour each. IO was firm but professional, some smiles.
Several service requests made, contacted Senator and Ombudsman. Background checks still pending.
July 21, 2017 HOME VISIT.  Went well. Topic thread in AOS forum.
Waiting to skip ROC and get 10 yr GC due to over 2 year while pending AOS
AOS APPROVED Oct. 4, 2017 * Green card in hand Oct 13, 2017 !!!!!

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.

Strangely a co-worker made my life HELL when she found out about my long distance relationship with my (now) husband. I endured snide digs and comments 9 hours a day, 5 days a week until I eventually left. Some of the comments she came out with were outrageously cruel and nasty. I guess looking back on it now it could have been jealousy but my faith in my relationship with my husband never faltered. As for close family and friends (who have the right to have concerns and opinions)... I received nothing but love and support from. We are just coming up to our 3rd year of marriage now.

Don't base it on that show. Its a "reality show" and they NEED the drama to make it interesting. You don't have to defend anything. You just happen to find your partner in a different country. ONLY YOU and YOU alone can determine if this person is after a green card or not and you do this by knowing the person you are going to marry and by being smart about spotting the red flags. Whenever people around us ask about it, they just look mesmerized by the whole process lo and behold, months later they ask for my help because they found someone they want to petition. Of course a petitioner's family are worried about it all, but it just comes from concern. All the doubt will just go away in time once you two prove that you are the real thing. Just takes time :D
