Hello,

My name is David. I have been married with my wife for a little more than 6 years back in Peru, She wanted me to come to the US but had a decent job over there so she would come visit me when she could about twice a year. Couple of years ago she submitted paperwork to get a Visa since work is slowing down and to be safe i decided to move here. when i received my passport it said IV Category IR1 and arrived in NJ about 2 months ago. Now things are not going well with my spouse. shes a different person wanting to boss me around because she is working and i am not. shes being immatured and saying it was a mistake for me to come here and i think shes hiding the green card. We had a big argument a week ago and i told her i would request a copy of the green card and said my green card would only be good for 2 years anyway and will not be able to renew it without her help. is this true? Shouldnt it be for 10 years? any help is much appreciated.

hi

not true, you are correct, since you have been married for over 2 years, you got the 10 year GC

I don't think she has it because it takes a while to receive it, but anyway, if she ever does, it is illegal because it is your document, she cannot keep it from you

Is there anywhere i can check on this? What would i need to verify that i have received it or if its a 2 or 10 years. I went to the website to show green card status and all i have is an LMA number and its not the 13 character they are asking for. Which form would this number be?

Thanks for the help!

hi

it is not a 2 year GC, to get a 2 year GC, you have to be married under 2 years, since you have been married for over 6 years, you would automatically get a 10 year GC

you have your temporary stamp in your passport that expires in 1 year from entering,

also, did you pay already the $165 that costs to get the physical GC? if you didn't pay or your wife didn't pay then you won't get it unless you pay the fee

you can call the local uscis or get an appointment to check if they have mailed your GC if there is a payment
