221(g) is a temporary refusal or hold on the issuance of visa. The immigration team at the consulate is not fully convinced that the applicant is qualified to receive the visa on the day of the interview. So they want to obtain additional documents or information to verify the credentials of the applicant before the visa can be issued. So rather than giving a rejection the case is put on hold until they can investigate and ascertain the applicant is qualified to receive the visa. There is no real timeline how long this process can take. It can be completed in a week or drag on for a few months or take more than a year.

I have a friend in AP and documents were turned in over a year ago / but they did inform him his case was open and updated it June 2015

Im the wife of a us citizen, the CO said everything looked fine but you need to submit two more additional documents; which i did exactly after a week.

Now my case status updated two days after I submitted the documented which I understand means that they are acknowledging that they received my documents, but now it has been over two weeks and it hasn't updated yet.

I want to know if theres any severe back log or delay associated with 221g if my visa has gone to the back of the lot again, because holidays are coming and i really have to get there. Any idea how long it usually takes?

Tinabina1 can you please tell us which two documents they means CO asked you to submit?

ims-2013 is you wife or your husband a US citizen? What questions did they asked you? And what slip they gave you? Did you took your spouse with you to the interview?

Well I called the courier service up i.e American Express which is their officail service for delivering documents to ask about the estimated time taken usually for my CR1 and 221g case and asked when can i pick my "stamped passport" back? They said to definitely keep all my planned travel plans around March or April next year.

Because for the next three months atleast because of the backlog I'm not going anywhere! ://

Muhammad they asked for my original nikkah nama (marriage certificate) and tax returns 2014 i thought the irs for the 2014 will cover it but they still asked for that

Gave me a white slip which said 221g

They didnt ask much questions just asked my husband's date of birth

His father and mothers name

Checked the documents and said everything looks fine and just submit these two documents and thats it.

Keeping your passport is a good sign! It most always means you will be issued your visa as soon as your AP is done. That said, they always tell you AP lasts a month so you don't call them every day asking why your visa hasn't arrived. It is also true that AP can last from a few days to a few years, but each case is different.

yes my wife is a us citizen

they asked me nothing special just

1) who is calling you

2) how long she been there

3) how did she go there

4) how do you met

5) how and what time do you talk to her

thats it .. then they ask for orignal mirrage certificate and orignal birth certificate which i provide

nothing else

at the end the interviewer told me everything is fine

but still on AP :( i am so angry and dont know what to do

i have a daughter .. and dont wana miss her childhood moments

I have been in AP for 4 months, They didn't ask any documents to submit. I had big plastic folder full of all evidences. but the CO didn't ask anything except few questions, at the end of the interview. She gave me 221G white letter. and said your case is perfect but it must go through AP. :(

Islamabad embassy is well-known for AP.

Everybody goes through AP.

Some are longer than others, T countries obviously take longer. Pakistan seems to be the longest.

I am very sad to see the results of Islamabad US embassy. It is quite unfair to put the people who are waiting since so long AP, but this is most probably in result of the recent attack in US. I am personally also worried about my case as well now. I wish and pray everyone get their visas ASAP.

Not sure anything has changed, yet.
