Hello everyone I am new here and have a couple questions. I am thinking about getting married in DR. I looked on the embassy website and it says 10,000 for the court cost. I assume that's in DR money correct? so equals out to about $581USD. is that for both of us or do we both have to pay this fee? he is a residence I am the citizen.

another question for the free to marry paper how long does it take to obtain once I get there? I'm just trying to figure out how long I should be there and don't want to mess up any time frame.

any thing else I need to know or to bring before I head there?

Thanks!

You are correct w/ regard to the cost of your CIVIL MARRIAGE to your potential husband. A civil marriage will be $10K pesos. A marriage is classified as a civil marriage in the Dominican Republic if it is not authorized and sanctioned by the Catholic Church, the official church of the DR. Next, I do not believe your stay in the DR, no matter how long or short it is will ultimately effect your initial immigration process. I would assume you would want to seek to immigrate your husband via an i-130 application.

I think an issue that may come up for you would be the support of your husband. I believe the further you proceed with the immigration process, the more the U.S. State Department is going to want you to explain how you are going to provide for yourself, and your husband, and keep the both of you insured without relying on public support, and that might be difficult if you are residing in the DR and not living and working in the U.S, unless you have a sponsor of some sort.

You should take the "single affidavit" document with you when you go. It has to be translated into Spanish and apostilled. All the documents will need to be submitted for review prior to your scheduled marriage date. My husband submitted the papers prior to my arrival. I arrived on Monday and got married on Wednesday.
