Oh No! Paranoia after sending I-129F

So I put on the form that I had never been married before. That's true. I was in a domestic partnership years ago but we officially ended it. Since it wasn't technically a marriage and there's still domestic partnerships even though marriage is gay marriage is legal it can't be the same thing - So I said no previous marriages.

The thing is, I included a loooonng excerpt of an even longer conversion when the relationship first started with my fiancee. In it, I refer to my ex as an ex-wife. How bad will that be? That along with the fact that while we have plenty of relationship evidence we had to "engagement" evidence other than our signed Intent to Marry forms.

Think we'd get RFE'd?

No engagement proof necessary, since engagement is not a legal state. LoI is all that's needed.

Hmmm I can see it being a potential problem on the UCIS level. They COULD request for you to provide evidence that you were not married (in that it was strictly a domestic partnership) since you did call her an "ex-wife". I heard a number of issues that occasionally pop up from submitted evidences of couples that accidentally refer to each other as a "husband"/"wife" (mostly in chat printouts) which caused RFEs with requests of proof that they were not actually married.

Technically, yeah you weren't married, but since you did refer to her as an "ex-wife" they might want more evidence (unless you already provided documents that proves the relationship was deemed as a domestic partnership). I'd be prepared just in case.

I feel so bad about this. I already mailed the forms to get a copy of the ending of the DP and a certificate of no marriage.

Has this happened to anyone or can anyone find VJ threads? I tried looking and couldn't.

I wouldn't fret too much about it. An RFE isn't a biggie as it would only cause for a potential 1-2 month delay if you get all your stuff in quickly. It's best that you get this all cleared out on an UCIS level rather than having it scrutinized at the embassy/interview level. After all, the UCIS wants to make sure you are fully cleared to get married without any lingering doubt of potential ties to a former relationship (especially since you did mention an "ex-wife").

IF you get an RFE, I would think that sending those two documents that you listed would be good enough. However, if you don't get an RFE, it will still be good to have those documents prepared on the interview level as they will most likely ask about it.

Yeah I'm fretting because we don't have 2 months. She's on a VISA in Canada that expires in July. After she has to leave back to France. I'm fretting

I know there's not much else I can do. Its my fault.
