It is incorrect to file "Single" because you were married those years.

File "Married Filing Separately". It will ask spouse's tax number. You can put NRA which stands for Nonresident Alien. Use Form 2555EZ to take the foreign income exclusion

To file jointly, she would have to have a SSN or ITIN. There is no advantage to filing jointly since your small income in Brazil should not have any taxes after you take the exclusion.

Thank you for the help.

I looked at form 2555 and I don't think that form will help me because I did not work for an American employer. I was self employed. I also was not a home owner, I rented.

can I just file 1040EZ for the last 3 years and put NRA if place of my wifes SSN?
