Translation Question + another question

Hi--I'm reading and reading, but getting more confused. My husband and I got married in Pakistan. He got marriage certificate and marriage registration papers translated and stamped as certified, then sent all that to me. But now I am reading that maybe the translator has to write out a statement and have it certified that he is a translator? That sounds a little crazy??? Like a certified translator certifying himself?

Also, where is the most dumbed-down "cycle" of filing for I-130? I have read some that are like War and Peace...lol I know that I send in the I-130, G235A, and the G-1145 to get email notification. I thought that was all for the first step. BUT then I saw that there is another place to send the I-130 along with form I-485 to register permanent status????? Wouldn't everyone want to do the I-485 at the same time? What is the difference??? Please clarify as I am currently losing my mind on this...and there's not much to spare at this point....

I'm getting this sick feeling that once I drop that packet at the Post Office, I am setting off a ticking clock that I can't catch up with as far as staying on top of what comes next, checking on status, getting more documents together, etc.

Thanks!!!!

The I-485 is a form you will never have to file, disregard anything that relates to it.

Thank goodness...BUT why do they have it tied in with the I-130 on the various sites? When he comes in at POE, what are the next steps. I know all about the K-1, but this one seems a million times more complicated.

CR1 is actually simpler.

A translator needs to write down that he is capable of translating. There's information on it on the NVC website.

The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

  • Translation is accurate, and
  • Translator is competent to translate.

That actually depends on the embassy because I just had my interview at the US Embassy in Sweden and in the email we get in preparation for interviews there, it says that the beneficiary cannot translate their own documents.

Ok, I still don't really have a definitive answer. The papers were translated by a translation business, with headings on the papers that state that. If they have a business, I don't really understand why they would have to add a statement saying they are qualified to translate???? Any ideas?

Because it's required by the DOS.

It doesn't matter that you don't understand there why, it's their requirement.
