Interview first week of Jan - embassy question Montreal

Hi Everyone,

Well I think everything is ready on my end. I have gone through the checklist provided with my packet 4. Have made multiple copies of everything and have them labelled in a bankers folder for ease at the interview.

My question is I am staying over the night before the interview in Montreal at a hotel and was wondering what I can and can't take with me to the embassy?

Will I be able to bring my phone and bag with my laptop?

Or will I need to leave that at the hotel front desk when I check out in the morning and then head back to get everything after the interview?

Also during the interview do they want to see pictures of an engagement ring or anything? Was wondering if I should take pics of it also?

Thanks

You won't be able to bring in any kind of bag, and to be safe I personally would leave the phone at your hotel front desk, if they will keep it for you.

Pics of engagement ring wouldn't prove anything, and they probably won't ask to see any other kind of photos either. To be on the safe side though, I would recommend taking proof photos (you and spouse together, with family, on trips) if you already have them.

I brought absolutely nothing with me except all required documents and paperwork in a folder... a man who was behind me in line waiting outside was turned away because of his back pack. yet i saw women with purses inside, even though we are told they are not allowed. so honestly, if you don't need it, leave it, just in case. I also wouldn't worry about a picture of the engagement ring either. But like the poster above said, do bring photos of the two of you if you can, although they never asked to see ours. But it's better to be safe!:) Good luck!

I have the I-129F packet and that had a ton of our photos in it so I will have that with me just in case.

You can bring a purse but it has to be small! like a little purse to hold your keys and lipstick and small wallet kind of small purse. There are small lockers for cell phones but I am not sure if those are only for US Citizens' convenience...I couldn't tell if all of the people using them (only w few when I was going in) were USC or not (one guy who I know was had them hold his phone when he went upstairs). Definitely no laptop permitted. I had a book with me to pass the time/try not to go nuts with nerves.

You will have to take off your coat, empty the pockets of your coat, and empty your other pockets, and they will metal detect you and wand you if the machine squeals., just like at the airport.

Leave everything you can. You cannot bring phones, keyfobs, electronics, bags, etc inside. They will check anything you need to but honestly they're safe and secure at the front desk. If you think you'd get bored or need something to do, bring a magazine or book.
