Tokyo: Attending Interview with my fiancee

Hello:

I am the US Petitioner. My fiancee has her K1 Visa Interview in Tokyo on January 25th. I am flying from Massachusetts to Japan to be there. When she booked the interview my fiancee received instructions from the US Tokyo Embassy which read: "No one other than the applicant will be admitted into the Embassy".

However, on the Tokyo Embassy page here at Visa Journey it indicates the US Petitioner may attend.

After suffering through a full year of K1 processing hell, I really don't want to be left standing outside on a January day in Tokyo while she does the interview.

Does anyone have any ideas, experience, suggestions, etc. on how I can be admitted to the embassy on interview day?

Thanks

Eric

You should contact the embassy and ask them if you'll be able to attend the interview. Sometimes, if it's not a crowded embassy, they'll tell you that you can and all you need is your US passport to gain entry. Or they will tell you that you can't attend because the embassy is crowded. So best bet, is to ask them directly.

It's weird. People here have reported that when they asked Tokyo Embassy to attend they were told they couldn't. Almost like they received a canned e-mail answer. But then I read the room is filled with couples. So, I'm looking for the magic beans that will get me in. :)

When I went with my husband in April, the security guard started to tell me that I wasn't allowed in without an appointment for myself. When I objected, his supervisor came over and said that as long as I was a US citizen and had my passport I could go in. So they let me in.

One way you can guarantee that you will be let in is to make a general embassy appointment for the same date and time as your fiancee's interview. I have heard of at least one other person doing that.
