Let someone else take the pics of you all so you are actually in the photos with her and her family and yes the letters may help from her parents

and siblings. Make sure they write in their own style and words, nothing written by you and then them just signing, authenticity counts, made up stuff

gets laughed at. :) They will know who wrote it.

I know you are helping. Thanks.

It is hard. Parents (and siblings) don't read/write, they are farmers.

Mother has never been to Addis, and probably won't come now. Heck there isn't even a post office in the village, so no street addresses for farms there. I gave my fiance a portable solar charger so she can keep her phone charged, which is now being used by several of her neighbors (it's a big hit), because electricity is out so much.

Male cousin, the smart one in the family who just graduated law school, has been completing and getting all the documents through the government review/signature/stamping requirements. Everything submitted is stamped by the local government, same as a notary, which he gets to happen--with lots of trips to the government offices. This part of the world, everything has to have a stamp. He also does the translation from Oromo to English. He is the chaperone, and the one I call when I get a wild hair that some other letter should be written...such as these letters I'll ask her parents for.

If not for him, I would never have started the K1--would have just got married and taken that route.

I am moving her to Addis a month out from the interview to make it easier for attending medical, and getting the police cert--which cousin will do as well.

Yes I got a road ahead of me. But all things are possible.

Once again, I truly appreciate your suggestions....I will attempt them all. Perhaps in modified form to be able to do it in this part of the world.

Tread very lightly then with the letters of affidavits and make sure the cousin states that the parents/siblings are illiterate and did not write them but

that he wrote and translated their statements. Otherwise this can back fire in a very big way. State this in a timeline relationship letter.

I am familiar with the cultural issues you mentioned and it is nothing new to me but watch the cousin closely that he doesn't go off with his own ideas on how to 'help' you. Make sure you double and triple check everything you submit that he, as you said, completed for you.

Facebook is a very good source of proving a bonified relationship, and you can set it up for only family and friends to see. The good thing about facebook timeline is it shows reaction of family and friends by likes and comments that they approve of your relationship. It also shows dates of post's and can be used as very good evidence of ongoing relationship. You can also block anyone who you don't want to see your timeline.
