Take a deep breath. :) Relax. It's okay, this happens all the time. USCIS can work with you.

You should be able to drop in on a Wednesday morning, first thing, at an application support center. Come armed with: photo ID (IE: passport), driver's license or birth certificate, marriage certificate (good if name's been changed), and your I-797 that gives the instructions for biometrics. Enter with the rest of the people (good idea to let those with appointments to go first) and then explain your situation to the officer at the desk. S/he may need to speak with an advisor, but try to emphasize you're not trying to cheat the system but get this done efficiently. I'd be prepared to wait for an hour or two, so taking along a book isn't a bad idea.

I did this for my biometrics appointment and it worked well. The supervisor gave me a dirty look, but once I was in there was no problem. :)

Make sure your husband's fingers don't have any cuts, scabs or whatnot or else he may have to come back when they're healed for an accurate print.

It does depend on your local office though. My local office does not allow walk-ins for anything. You either have to have an appointment letter or an Infopass appointment.

Good luck,

I hope you can get this worked out

Michelle,

Good question, to which I do not have what I know to be a good answer.

To start, the real question is what can he do and it's more than semantics. You are likely to find that not matter who you contact they will not deal with you about your husband's issue - they are likely to insist on dealing with him as it's his application.

If it were me, I'd do everything possible to change my plans and make myself available to keep my appointment.

Failing that, if there is any contact information on the appointment notice I'd use it to ask what can be done.

Failing that, I'd check the USCIS web site to see if there's any contact information for the ASC where the appointment is scheduled and use it to ask what can be done.

Failing that, if the ASC where the appointment is scheduled is co-located with a District or Sub office I'd make an InfoPass appointment to go in and try to reschedule in person.

And finally, failing all of the above, I'd have my wife appear for the appointment with the notice and have her try to get a new appointment.

Not all centers allow you a choice. My wife's appointment letter said "Please appear at the below application center at the date and time specified. If you fail to appear as scheduled, your application will be considered abandoned."

So, they do take it very seriously - at least in Denver, Colorado. Not sure if they let you reschedule in California. For us because the biometrics appointment was scheduled after the AOS interview - the interviewer ordered the biometrics for the same day and we got it done prior to the actual date they were scheduled for. Good Luck

I had the same problem, go to your local office in person and ask if they can reschedule. My appointment was going to interfere with our first vacation as a married couple and they brought it forward to before we were due to leave.

Hope this helps

I too go through the Atlanta office and had to reschedule my last biometrics as it was scheduled the day before we flew back from our Christmas visit to my husband's parents in Texas. I had only 2 days notice before we flew out of the interview date so filled out the bottom of the form as requested and hand delivered it to the Application Support Center. There was no problem at all. They rescheduled me and sent me a new date based on my information of when I was available. If you don't have that option on the letter, then either stop in at the Application Processing center in person and explain the situation to the desk person, or call the Information line and press the sequence of numbers listed several posts above to speak to a real person. I am sure you will be able to work something out other than having to re-arrange your travel plans. Good luck.
