The Public Policy Polling company sent out these tweets this morning:

Apparently this is for real: PPP, which is known for asking cheeky/provocative questions in its polls, asked voters if they would support bombing Agrabah—the city* depicted in the animated Disney film Aladdin—during an otherwise straightforward survey, and some said yes.

On the one hand, this is crazy; on the other, "Agrabah" sounds pretty similar to "Aleppo" and "Raqqa," which are two Syrian cities that have been occupied by ISIS, and the other poll questions were about real things, and one might be inclined to assume that a polltaker was asking about a real place. But still, yeah, people said we should bomb the country from Aladdin.

*Correction, Dec. 18, 2015: This post originally misidentified Agrabah as a country. But the script of Aladdin clearly identifies it as a specific city!

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

It's things like this that give me so little confidence in the ability of the people to self-govern. I really think there should be some basic intelligence qualification required before a person can vote. This is just one example of so many indicating clear and unequivocal ignorance in the unwashed masses. I don't know what basic intelligence qualification would be, but there must be a better way. The fact that 30 second ads actually work on people come election time is all a person needs to know how stupid we are in general.

Good luck!

goes to show fear trumps reason. if asked if we should go to war with a country that sounds islamy, frightened people err on the side of caution..even though they can't quite place argrabah on a map it's probably best if we kill it before it kills us.

Fear is perhaps the strongest motivator of voters. You see it in how even the stupidest of politicians know instinctively to play on it.
