I 134 Question in regard to bringing sister to the US

So my mother, US citizen, will be filing paperwork to bring my sister, under 21, to the US. It is far less messy if I am the sole financial sponsor. Is that feasible? And...are the wait times still horrendous if I am the one to sponsor her VISA entirely?

I don't think there's a case where a sibling petition is ever faster than a child one by a parent. You can be the financial sponsor, it's not especially extra complicated.

Mom has to file an I-864 as the petitioner. You would file your own I-864 as the Joint Sponsor.

There is nothing messy since this is the only way to go if your mom does not meet the I-864.

You being the JS does not change anything. Same wait time with or without a JS.

Affidavit of Support for family-based immigration is I-864.

If your mother petitions her, your mother, as the petitioner, will need to be a sponsor. You can be a joint sponsor.

If you petition your sister, it requires that you are a US citizen at least 21, and it will have a wait of about 12.5 years, whereas if you mother petitions her there is no wait.

Thank you. Both my mother and I are citizens.

Last question, does my mother have to remain in the US during this process. She is back and forth between here and the U.K. frequently.

she can travel, but she needs to show that she lives here, her primary residence is the US, that's why she is petitioning her daughter, for family reunification
