I applied my SSN after getting married, but been having issues from their part. Been almost two months and still waiting.

Did you do that wild and crazy thing of not using your visa name in the application; instead using your new 'married' name? Yes? No? If yes, well, you created yer own havoc .

Sorry !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

No, they say that the form that they sent the first place was the wrong one, so they had to send it again.. But said that it takes around 4 weeks to check my paperworks, marriage info, bla bla bla to DHS

Ya, that's the 'kiss of death', that DHS Verification.

If'n, instead, you had applied in your VISA name, asking for (and getting) a SAVE DB lookup,

you could have gone back, next day,

and

gotten the number (not the card).

Hi everyone. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

We ended up going back to the SSA and they confirmed we need the EAD before applying for SSN. USCIS recommended going ahead and get married because the EAD and other filings are free versus $380 or something like that.

Of course, with no birth certificate and dorked up visa and other docs, the city has issues with applying for a marriage license. Yay. At least her e-passport (not the one with her visa) has the right name and USCIS said that will carry most of the weight. Trying to get affidavits from family and will submit it all with the I-765 and keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all the helpful information and advice!

I can understand feeling the futility, but it comes about through interaction with untrained humans at the SSA office.

you only need 2 IDs at the SSA office -

First ID? Passport.

Second ID? Visa Foil in the passport.

add in the I-94, and yer golden !

yer POE date was 2015-11-26 - so you have a small bit of time to keep chasing this - ie -

get into a SSA office,

ask for shift supervisor,

get shift supervisor,

ask for SAVE DB lookup on visa name and A# -

then if no typos !!!

apply in visa name.

If typos, get to CBP deferred inspection office, have them fix it, then go back to SSA office a week after CBP office (SAVE db doesn't do real time updates).

Then, the next day after applying at SSA, get into SSA office again, they will give you the SSB (number, not the card).

Go Get Em, Be Adamant, and Good Luck !
