Hi everyone,

My fiancé was approved for the K-1 visa earlier this week (yay!). We are looking at flights out of Ottawa and wondering if he can enter the states on a flight from Ottawa or if he needs to go through Toronto? We are only asking because when I fly to Canada, I usually have to land in Toronto or Montreal and then connect to Ottawa from there. Any input would be appreciated.

Good luck to everyone with their applications!

Yes Ottawa has U.S. customs and if it is a direct or connecting flight to the U.S. He will be able to clear customs before flying and activate his visa. If he is connecting through a Canadian hub like Toronto or Montreal, he wil need to clear customs at that airport, so you would need to plan extra time in that layover. Ottawa is my home airport and I have cleared customs there many times (even activating visas to work on cruise ships).

Thank you very much to both responses! I was thinking the same thing in regards to flying from Ottawa to Toronto. So, we will book a flight from Ottawa to the states. :) Happy holidays!
