I just got this message when I went to check the status of my case on USCIS. When I went to do as they suggest, it tells me that I cannot file a paper like this until 30 days have passed. Meanwhile they are telling me to send in a request. What would you do? Thanks! (this is for an I-130 for my husband that was just accepted by USCIS on Dec. 1st, 2015). I don't see what else I can do!

Also on that form online they tell me I can't submit the form without a STATE in the address field. We, however, don't live in the States yet! Grr...

Document Was Returned To USCIS

On December 14, 2015, the Post Office returned your document to us. We will hold your document for 180 days or until June 11, 2016. Please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request that we resend the document to you. If you do not submit an online request by June 11, 2016, we will destroy your document and you will need to file a new Form I-130, Immigrant Petition for Relative, Fiance(E), or Orphan, with fee. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

most likely, this was a formletter I-797C, receipt notice (what we call the NOA-1 here)...

what address did you use on you for the I-130 and the G-325-A ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Yes, thanks, that's the form I'm assuming they are sending me. I checked and double checked our address on the paperwork we sent to them and it clearly says our one in Israel.

i would not worry about it for the moment.

When you have a 6 hour block of free time,

call into uscis again, get a tier 2 human on the phone,

and carefully vette your address.

Why? who knows - you might get an RFE later.

why did this happen, you ask? the clerk that handled the intake got it wrong.

I just confirmed the address is correct on all my forms and it definitely is. Maybe the postal code is what screwed things up. My postal code here in Israel is the same as one in Oklahoma, as I've found out after just googling it. Maybe they punched that in or something and it got routed to Oklahoma? Ughhhh. So I have to wait til 30 days have passed to submit an inquiry it looks like?

Thanks Darnell!

I just spoke to someone at USCIS and she said she couldn't handle my request so would transfer me. I waited and they said they were busy (all automated, of course) and that they'd call me back. But I was calling through Skype so I doubt they will be able to get me. I am in Israel. I have to find the number to call immigration from outside the US.

I still didn't get the Skype phone number but that does seem like the right thing to do. I'm still expecting/hoping to get something from the California office saying the I-130 was approved. It says here on my timeline that it MIGHT be approved around January 10-18th or so. So not getting the NOA1 is just a formality I hope. One that I obviously will talk to someone at USCIS with on Monday, but still, doesn't seem like it should actually hold up our application. Being hopeful here! But will definitely talk to them on Monday.
