Yesterday, we finally got our first case status update after our initial NOA1. It was 7 months and 1 day after our NOA1. Unfortunately, we got an RFE, so it's going to be another month or two added on to our already asinine wait. No idea what they want from us. Does anyone know if we can check what the RFE says online? We had trouble receiving mail from USCIS back in December so I'm worried that we might not get this letter in the mail and I don't want to have to wait until August 21st to be able to submit an e-request in case we don't get anything in the mail. (The email we got said that we can submit an e-request if we don't get anything in the mail by August 21st).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately then don't give an clues about the RFE online. Even if you call them to ask they just say "wait to receive the letter". It's not very efficient in the 21st century to be relying on the postal service but that's USCIS for you....

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

Hi Reggie, like JFH said your RFE info is only on the actual document. Back in December were you able to find out at all what the problem was why you did not get the mail? I don't know if they handle it differently for RFEs but I've heard of others on this forum change their address to the address of someone they know in the US, and then have USCIS resend it to that address.

Its good you finally heard about your case, just hope you can get this mail issue fixed somehow.

I'm feeling so fed up, out of patience with regards to our case. I was so patient going into this, expecting it could take up to a year but sheesh, it's wearing on me. We are stuck in the NVC stage now. I sent them all our official documents, in the order they requested - tripled checked it before mailing it - then I get a letter saying you didn't include your spouse's military records. I most certainly did because it was one we had to wait a few weeks to receive here in the mail. It was in Hebrew but was not required to be translated. I'm guessing the genius that opened our package didn't see it? Dropped it on the floor and it went flying in the wind somewhere? They didn't recognize it for what it was? I have no idea, just guesses. I'm calling them every Monday to check on the case. They got my 2nd copy of the military record on June 24th and say to me all the time, 'we received your mail and it can take up to 6 weeks for us to review it.' Beyond frustrating. I just want to get on a plane and start my life there. OUR life there. I could leave my husband here to wait but ... no matter how often I've thought of doing that I just can't bring myself to do it. It's been 20 business days since then. Each week I hope THIS will be the one when I get an email from them. Here's hoping THIS is the week, ughhhhh.

Hi Blanche, sorry to hear this has gotten so frustrating for you. Here's hoping that your case finishes up in the next week or so, so you can finally get back home!

Its good you finally heard about your case, just hope you can get this mail issue fixed somehow.

The address they have for me already lists my parent's house in the US, so there shouldn't be an international mail issue. Even so, they didn't receive the NOA1 in the mail like they should have, and I called USCIS and asked about this. They simply said "well we tried to send it to whatever address was listed on your forms, so if you didn't get it, it was either lost in the mail or you put the wrong address on the forms" (which we most certainly did not do). My lawyer's office got the mail NOA1 though, so hopefully they'll get the RFE even if my parents don't.

Also, to Blanche, I want you to believe me when I say that I perfectly understand how you feel. It's almost as if you typed out my inner thoughts. I would love nothing more than to be able to move back to America and start my life with my wife again, and as much as I've thought about leaving her here and going myself, I can't bring myself to abandon her like that. She'd be crushed if I left her alone here. And USCIS certainly doesn't help at all to speed anything along. I understand how hard it must be to always pay attention to every detail of every single case and to genuinely put forth effort and energy to make everything go as quickly and smoothly as possible for each applicant; it's honestly rather unrealistic to expect that from someone. But it feels like they really take that leeway I'm willing to give a little too far at times. Half the time, it seems like they don't really care at all about your case and like they're not even trying to sort things out for you. It's really a terrible system when you think about it, but American immigration reform is rather unlikely to happen any time soon, much to the dismay of all of us in this position. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that even if nobody else understands how you feel about all of this Blanche, I definitely do, and we're hanging in there together.

Thanks for the info JFH and Looky. It's definitely not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate knowing about it anyway. Best of luck to everyone.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, you guys. I suppose you're right, Reg, to factor in human error in the process. It has to happen somewhere along the line and it happened to happen to us now in NVC! Hopefully in a few months this will all be behind us and we'll be enjoying Halloween in America???? Hope so! Been waiting for this for so long that it's just strange to imagine it all actually happening. I've been in Israel for 7 years in September. Was ready to go back to NY after about 2 years. :( But I'll try to stay hopeful! Could always be worse!

Hey everyone, I think I have good news. 3 NA's showed up on my ceac account yday so I called and confirmed and they said my case is complete! I haven't gotten an email or anything about it yet so going to wait till the end of this week to see if I do. I had gotten a checklist on 7/1 and have been going back and forth with the supervisor since then about my marriage certificate so I'm glad to be past that stage. Been keeping an eye on other Indian applicants and I don't think we'll be having the visa interview for at least another 2 months.

Congrats AH88! I'm so tired of logging in to the CEAC website and seeing the exact same thing. How did yours change? I mean how did it look different? I've been calling NVC every Monday for the past month. Still no change on our case. Happy for you, though!

On the ceac.state.gov/ceac/ there should already have 2 N/A's on the website. The third N/A will show up under Affidavit of Support Fee. Right now it would say PAID and then will change to N/A.

once you see the third N/A , that means your case is complete

call nvc then to confirm

Hmm, I don't know. The whole page has N/A's all over it, including the Affidavit of Support fee part. And it has looked like this for a long time for me. But each time I call NVC they say my case is still pending, waiting to review the Military Record they lost when I sent it in first. It has been 22 business days now today since they got my mail. They said it can take up to 30 days (business days, I'm assuming) and so ... ugh, we should be close.
