i had my first encounter with the NVC today ( i am still waiting on my NOA 2 btw , i just wanted to ask them a question regarding name change )

so i had my wife's married name on the i-130 form , we thought we will change the name on the passport later

turns out that its too long for her to change the name on the passport and then get a police clearance certificate for the nvc stage ( she is an indian who is doing her masters in canada )

rather than going through all that we decided to go ahead with her maiden name , so i called NVC with just my uscis number in hand , within 2 min a nice lady helped came , heard my question and answered " you just need to send a mail to us with her changed name and a copy of her current passport "

she was calm and helpful

we decided that we will change her name at a later stage ( since she will be getting a Conditional visa so it needs to be renewed after 2 years , we can do a name change then )

i hope we all ( those who are waiting ) get NOA 2 soon , though we still have 2 more months to go

Nebraska why so slow

I have seen somebody else's status before they got NOA2, and it specifically mentioned that they approved the I-130. This seems to me like its probably an RFE, request for evidence, document. Either something you wrote or checked on a form needs correction, or they want some more evidence or something. In most cases something minor and then you may get approval a few weeks after you send in what they want.

But then on the I-130 you put your last name as her last name, and her last name is still her maiden name, correct? I don't know that could cause some confusion at USCIS, cause they have to do name checks before approval,

no i put my first name as her middle name

and her last name as our family name ( i don't carry that family name , i have my father first name as my last name )

on i-130

My name : Sanil Thomas

her name : rosemary sanil kochupurackal

on her passport

her name : Rosemary peter

we would be providing a proof of her indian passport as well as US visitor visa to change it back to the maiden name

Looky, I am glad to know you on here! I feel like we are the only ones from December waiting, the only ones going through Texas, and the only ones who aren't doing DCF. If not for you, I'd probably be going crazy wondering what's going on!

Thank you JLovesA , nice knowing you on here too  ! Yes I like to make some noise :ranting: , I guess it helps keeps my mind off the wait. We also have another thing in common, we were both trying to do K-1 Visas about 5 years ago. In those threads there were a lot more people. There are a lot less doing the I-130.

Also there are about 10 other people who are in the same boat we are but most of them are pretty quiet so we don't notice them too much.

By the way it looks like TSC and NSC are starting to trend a little faster and CSC is starting to get a tad bit slower. Looking at those graphs of historical processing times. Not that the change is much at all and probably won't make much of a difference to us December people.

Looky, JLovesA: we are all here, you guys are not alone. This is a long process, it might be better if we are prepared for all the steps in future.

I actually read quite a lot in VJ to learn from people are doing this and it is great to be in this forum for December filers. Knowing and sharing info with someone on the same situation just help making our mind in peace. It is only 2-3 months to go for I-130 then you guys can move forward like others in this forum are doing with their NVC.

JlovesA we all are here, but just like daylightvn said its quite a long process,so we are all just quietly waiting...... Too much focus on this and i would lose my mind from waiting......let's just keep waiting and hoping for positive news...... Cheers..have a lovely day ahead..

Good Morning everyone, I have a question to ask. I have a friend who's husband has over stayed his tourist visa. He and her got married in June. They are in the process of doing their paperwork. They want to go on a cruise really soon. While they are doing the process is it possible for him to go on a cruise right now or is it not a good idea for him to do that until he gets his greencard.

I take it you didn't read Reggie's story, they got married in the US and went out of the country for their honeymoon. They wouldn't let his wife back in the country and they end up doing an I-130. They were lucky cause they were both able to live abroad and file from there.

If the husband has overstayed his tourist visa how is he going to get back into the US. Being married to someone in the US is more of a reason not to let him back in, not the other way around. (My opinion)
