Hey guys, can you tell me about this lines... I can't understand this line, plz.

Follow to join benefits allow the spouses and children of lawful permanent residents of the United States to get green cards at a later time than their spouses or parents did. This benefit is available to the eligible dependents of those who got their green cards based on family sponsorship, employment or through the diversity visa lottery program. Dependents of immigrants who received green cards in the United States based on an immediate relative petition are not eligible for follow to join benefits.

To me, it seems like you can get your family into America before they actually are given green cards, as long as you got one first. Think of it like "I got in, and my family can join me while their paperwork is being processed." I'm not perfectly sure about that, and I don't know what qualifies as "eligible dependents", but if you already got your green card through family sponsorship or employment, then it might be something really worth looking into.

Yeah that makes more sense. He's an LPR and already filed at CSC.

VJ isn't letting me edit my post, so I'll further say that there is a lot of good information about the Follow to Join benefits here: http://www.***removed***/greencard/***removed***/following-to-join-benefits.html

In short, let me summarize it with this:

If you for your LPR status as anything other than being an immediate relative (this means if you got it through employment, through the diversity lottery, through having a US citizen as your brother or sister, or as having a US citizen as a parent and that you obtained your LPR status after you were already married), then your children and spouse might be eligible for Follow to Join.

Follow to Join is a special benefit that would allow your family to get into America to live with you without having to process I-130 applications for all of them. You would just need to contact your US Consulate and apply for immigrant visas for your family. This involves sending an I-824 to the USCIS along with some other documents mentioned in that website I linked above. The USCIS will then contact your Consulate and you can then apply for special Follow to Join immigrant visas for your family.

Your children will have to be unmarried, under 21 years old, and they have to have been alive and be your child(in the case of adoption or step-children) BEFORE your became a LPR.

Okay, I guess I don't know much about what I can and can't do on VJ right now... -_-

That link was to www ***removed*** com / greencard / ***removed*** / following-to-join-benefits htm
http://www.***removed***/greencard/***removed***/following-to-join-benefits.html

Just google search "follow to join" and click on the link for "Following to join benefits for spouses and children of lawful..."

Anyway, I hope that helps. Maybe you apply for this, maybe not. It's worth looking into though if you're already an LPR, and it might speed up the time you and your family will be apart immensely. I hope that helps a little. It might be faster for you than waiting for your wife's I130 to go through.

Good luck!~

For the Follow to Join you must have been married before you were an LPR. Its to bring the family together again.

So in your case, you did not have children or wife before you became an LPR, correct? If that's the case Follow to Join does not apply to you.

This is a quote from some lawyers website.

"At the time of filing Form I-824, applicants must prove that a family relationship existed between them and the beneficiaries even before they became permanent residents. Also, spouses and the children of the applicants must have been living abroad when the applicants entered the United States with their green cards or adjusted their status to permanent residence from within the country."

Oh man that's a bummer, Reg. We have a sad story, too, but we're stuck here in Israel together at least, thought many times I've wanted to jump on a plane with my son and wait things out in the comfort of my parents home in New York. Sigh .... it's not an easy journey for anyone. Good luck. I was born in Kilkenny, by the way. :)

Hello all,

My I-130 was received Dec.14th at the Nebraska Service Center for my Peruvian wife and stepdaughter. Seeing a few of these quick NOA's makes me feel a little better but also makes me wonder why I haven't received any updates. I am a natural born US citizen who has lived in Texas all of my life.

I am traveling to Lima for my wife's birthday in 2 weeks and I really wanted to have good news for her.

Hi kh, welcome, most cases approved in this thread were people living and filing from abroad, so they were like a DCF, direct consular filing. Those are special cases.

The average case will be closer to the 5 month average although the California Service Center is faster right now cause it does,'t have a big backlog of cases. Good luck.
