I had BlueCross HMO that used to be about $180 a month for just me. Since the ACA, it skyrocketed to $380 a month. Since I'm newly married I was forced to ditch the plan and move over to what 'choices' were left. For both of us it is now $420 a month, no longer an HMO, and offers a worse deductible, worse copays, but at least it offers coverage for child birth/wellness etc. Seriously... the next best plans were in the $600-$900 per month range... who the hell could afford that?! O_o

I have a hard time trying to get my husband to understand the stupidity of our insurance system..

In over 30+ years of paying for my own health insurance I don't ever recall the premiums going down once.

I'm not sure why so many people are up in arms about this healthcare plan, we've had it here in Mass much longer than anyone else and it's really not that bad. I've got a Blue Cross PPO (single plan) through my employer with a $2K deductible, my employer picks up 50% and I pay the other 50% which is about $45 per week. That's $2340 a year for health ins and my wife has a very similar plan through her employer. Personally I don't think that's unreasonable. Would I much prefer a single payer plan? Yes, but I don't see this plan as the big problem some people make it out to be.

Our deductibles have gone up a lot, but that has nothing to do with the ACA, as much as some people try to tie the two together. It has been trending that way for years, and it's tied to what the average consumer spends. That's one of the ways insurance companies can maximize profits, and it's no different than any other insurance.

People forget, each employer actually picks the plans they offer. Our plans got worse about 3 years ago. It wasn't the ACA or the insurance companies. My employer picked a plan where they had lower costs, and the higher deductibles got passed on to the employees. They are in business to make money too.

Aren't you a veteran? Don't you get health ins through Uncle Sam at a lower rate?

eh - his first year with ACA was amazing - great tax credit, low deductibles, etc etc.

then 'they' reviewed his income tax for the next year, and did a nice adjustment.

Who's thieving on who? :D

I can get VA but I did not do 20 years. The VA will not cover my wife.

Plus I tried using the VA. It was scary bad

Scary bad money wise?

No, the VA is sub par at best when it comes to facilities and the way the treat vets.

I knew the VA was bad when it came to treating disabled Vets, I wasn't aware of how bad it was for preventative care.

It's bad all the way around. Here in HI it's not so bad since we can choose which doctor to see, but in the mainland? I used to take my granddad to the VA in St. Louis. I'm ashamed at how abysmal the building is and the way the staff treats the patients.

JesusHC.

I have a Blue cross/blue shield plan that sucks compared to that. Currently we are paying about 500.00 per month. Got a letter last month and the rate is at 700.00 per month. Not only that we have a 3,000 deductible per person. After that it goes to 50%. I think max out of pocket total is around 13,000 per year, but that does not include the premiums. So that is over 8,000 per year even if we never visit the hospital. If I wasn't married I would just go back to my previous plan. NONE.
