Hi Everyone,

My fiance is about to fill out the I-I29F form and he has come to question #35. a. We met on match.com and are not sure if this is considered an international marriage broker as we both paid a small fee at the beginning to talk to others on there.

On the I-I29F form, it states to "attach a copy of the signed, written consent form the IMB obtained from your beneficiary authorizing the release of your beneficiary's personal contact information to you."

Now I don't have this at all because while chatting with him, we decided to exchange numbers and communicate this way. What have others done in the situation with Match.com (is it/is it not an IMB), and how would I go about filling out this part of the form? I have looked and looked for a straight answer about whether or not it's an IMB, and cannot find one.

Thanks

Ok, but there's many other sites that are arguing it is:

(eg. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/10060419/International-marriage-brokers-can-money-buy-you-love.html)

as well that it is not: (eg. http://law.campbell.edu/lawreview/articles/29-2-311.pdf).

Does anyone have personal experience filing the I-I29F and ticking the box that says one way or another? Or any government-related documents to see whether it is or not?

Thanks

Contact the website and ask them for their Terms of Service stating that they are not an IMB. Send a copy of the email response from them stating it is not a marriage broker and a copy of their TOS. Read through the IMBRA forum. There are plenty of posts about this topic.

If you read the 129f instructions, they specifically state "International Marriage Brokers provide personal contact information or facilitate communications between individuals."

So they are defining IMBs with a broader brush than many who strictly interpret the Webster definition of the term.

We are seeing a lot of RFEs these days concerning this. KayDeeCee has given you what you should do. We did the same and had no issues except my wife was asked a couple of questions about it during her interview....was not a deal breaker.
