Today I am very sad. One of the survivors of domestic violence that I helped here was mundered,her new husband shot her last nigt and she passed away a few hours ago. I don't think I posted here about another girl murdered last year too,but this time I can't be silent,people hAve to understand how dangerous is to get married to people that they barely know.

I am not here to blame the victims because abuse is a choice made by the abuser,but people have to stop with the bs to get married after dating someone for 2/6months or getting married after seeing the person once or twice,of course people that dated for long time are subject to violence as well,but 80% of the survivors that I helped had a short relationship before getting married.

Abusers follow a patern. I WILL try this weekend to open a thread about "red flags".

When a victim posts here about being abused please never say to the victim things such as "talk to him when he is calm", "talk to your pastor/priest",or " we have here just one side of the story " etc these stupid statements are dangerous, the right thing to say is "leave the abuser now, call the cops, seek refuge in a safe place ". Visa Journey is an open forum and everyone can express what they want but we need to be more responsible when we know that someone is being abused.

I don't remember her nickname here on VJ but R.I.P my dear. Today the heaven became more special with your presence.

I don't even know how I am going to work today.

This is so horrible..I am so sorry for this woman.

We have to learn to love ourselves first. You Sandra are completely right. Most of us got into these abusives relationships because we did not know that person well.

Be strong, Sandra. Grieve for the lost ones, but concentrate also on the many dozens whom you've helped as their chief or sole resource.

You're 100% right about Knowledge of Partner. We get more advice on how to buy a car or a washing machine than we do on picking a mate.

Your contemplated thread about red flags should be highly valuable. Consider posting it as a new, stand-alone thread.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction of counselling. I'm going next week in the Bx. Although I'm searching for one closer to home in Westchester.

How do you find a reliable psychologist to provide the correct format evaluation required for VAWA?

Does anyone have a good recommendation for NYC?

Hi Everyone,

Today, I received notice (via checking the case status page) that my I-130 application was approved. :dancing: . Thanks to Sandra for all of her help.

Now, my question is "What now?"

My initial I-485 interview was canceled (by USCIS) back in September. Will USCIS revive this case or will I need to file a new I-485 and start over from scratch?

I currently have an EAD that is due to expire in April. I have never received a greencard as I was adjusting from a B2 visa.
