Can anyone help me and answer this question? I have waited 17 months for a decision on my VAWA case. Today I was notified via e-mail informing me that they have mailed me a notice informing me of an action that has been taken on my case. What does this mean? Does this mean they have made a decision? And why is it that they just didn't tell me the decision in the e-mail? I even checked the USCIS website under my cases and it says the same thing. I am going crazy!! I just want to know. If anyone has any answers I would really appreciate it.

Hello everyone.

Whew!! ... finally gets to Part 7 after reading part 6 in its entirety.

I'm also new here and would be around for a minute. :) I'm still in the preparation stages for VAWA (gathering information and trying to see if my support document applies for this petition). I'm hopeful that it would go through seamlessly.

Hey guys! I just got a letter yesterday saying that my VAWA was approved! I started collecting documents last year around the same time, finally submitted my VAWA in July(they recieved it on July 21). Then on July 30th they sent me a notice of action stating that I didn't provide any proof of:

1. being married

2. that he was a USC or LPR

3. that we resided together

4. that I suffered battery or cruelty

5. good moral character

6. bona fide marriage

So basically like I didn't submit anything at all. Sandra said that they must have lost the documents and I was getting ready to answer the RFE this week when I got a new notice of action saying that my petition was approved on December 1st! I almost fainted at the metro when I got a call from my in laws with good news!!! I guess they screwed up or something, but it doesn't matter anymore! Thank you, Sandra again for all of your help. You can't even imagine how grateful I am!!! Christmas miracles do happen!

Thanks Sandra!!! Merry Christmas & happy New Year to you and everyone else here on VJ!

I actually have a couple of questions about the next step. My passport was stolen back in 2013 and I was told not to go to russian embassy till I apply for GC or later, after I got separated from my husband, till my VAWA is approved(I was out of status and told that they can start removal proceedings, plus I couldn't get to the embassy to get one). So I did a little research and it's gonna take about 6 months for me to get a new one(3 months to prove my russian citizenship and 3 for them to issue a new one). So I was thinking can I apply just for EAD for now? while I'm collecting docs for AOS and waiting for my passport(I don't wanna apply for AOS right away and end up going to the interview without an ID. I have a copy the passport that was stolen with my visa, my birth certificate and an expired passport in russian(the equivalent to the US ID).

Then the category would be c14, right?

Also my I94 was in my passport, I have the # and I have arrival date on my DS2019(I came on Work and Travel, J1). Do I HAVE to spend the $ and apply for I94 replacement?

Hello everyone,

My I-485 was denied last week. Although, I was already in the process of filing VAWA before I received the mail. An attorney advised that I ask USCIS to hold my case in abeyance, but I'm still working on my personal statement letter and compiling all documentation when I received the denial TODAY.

Can I still petition for VAWA? Should I expect a deportation letter from USCIS because of the denial? Please advise.

Do I quit my job? is my EAD now invalid? Do I inform HR? *I'm not sure what to do**
