Maybe not exactly the same problem but similar when I went to apply for my SSN. I have two middle names and they all showed up as Given Names on both my passport and visa. When applying at the SS office I wrote my middle names as such and there occurred the issue, the gentlemen told me he would have to verify my name with the USCIS. I received a letter saying that it could take up to 4 weeks to verify. I tried contacting the deferred inspection office and basically they told me that they didn't see an issue with my name as it was correct in their eyes.

Anyway, 4 weeks passed and I received a letter saying the SS office had approved my application and I should have my card within 2 weeks and now I have it. I checked my own information in the SAVE database and learned that my case had been returned to the Maryland SS administration pretty quickly from USCIS's side and basically it just took somebody a longer time to process my SSN!

In the end it hasn't been that difficult waiting 5 weeks all together. No biggie.

Just my two cents. :D if it helps any.

you were lucky, as usually 'sent out for DHS Verification' is a deep dark pit of despair, with the report issued past day 74 of the POE event. Past day 74? a K-1 visa holder isn't eligible to receive a SSN anymore, must wait until EAD or greencard doc in hand.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Oh yeah! I don't doubt that. I was pretty determined when first arriving and luckily applied in the first week so I'm still well within even my 90 day period :) But yeah, definitely lucky I guess.

walk into a CBP deferred inspection site, talk with the shift supervisor.

We had this issue and it turns out it started at my husband's very first POE when he came to the US for the first time and someone entered it wrong. We had the social security office fix it. My husband has two middle names but instead of giving him a middle name the officer at the airport made his first name also include his two middle names. So when he went to get his SSN they couldn't find him because they were looking for someone with 3 first names and no middle name.

I had exactly the same problem, I showed the lady at the Social Security office my passport and she corrected it on the system there and then. I just had to sign a form with the corrections and it was done. My SSN card arrived about a week later with the correct name and my green card the following week, also with the correct name. I have no idea why the mistake was made as my visa application and all my other paperwork clearly showed my first and middle names as separate names.

I'm from the UK, hubby is from Michigan and is a retired US Army LTC.   We are currently stationed overseas.

Here is our immigration journey so far....

10.26.13 - Our wedding in Scotland
