I have a situation, where with the NEW 2015 Poverty Guidelines, I may need a joint sponsor, but there is a qualification.

On my ORIGINAL 2014 tax return, I filed for 4 dependents (my 4 children). Adding myself and my new wife would make the household number 6 people and at THAT number, I would not be able to go further WITHOUT a sponsor as I would be under the poverty guideline number for SIX people.

In addition, I amended the ORIGINAL 2014 return to ADD my new grandson. This now brought my household to 6 (me, 4 children, one grandchild). Add my incoming wife, that would be 7 people in the household, again, placing me well BELOW the number where I would not need a joint sponsor. Frankly, I could keep that amended return from the NVC, but I assume they can find out I filed for another dependent?

Here's the qualification/explanation:

I filed for my son on my 2014 tax return because he lived with me for the first 5 months of that year. He moved out, on his own, to another state since June of 2014 after graduation and filed his OWN taxes in 2014. So, as of 16 months ago, he has NOT been a part of my household and in ONE month when I file my 2015 taxes, he will NOT be a part of the dependent list. This reduces the household size by 1 (down to 6, with my wife and grandson included).

My grandson was a last minute add. Since then, he has gone on to live with his father and his father will file for him in 2015. He, also, is no longer a part of my household nor will be a dependent in 2015. This will reduce the household by 2 (now down to 5, with my wife included, excluding my son and grandson). At 5 people, I would need NO joint sponsor.

So in short, if the NVC/CO judges me by 2014 tax return, yes, I would be BELOW the number to file on my own without need to a sponsor. If they judge me by what is EXPECTED in basically, one month (when I file 2015), I would not need a sponsor. Problem is, I am at the stage where I NOW have to file the AOS and I only have my 2014 to work with. So, the NVC rep said that all I have to do is send in a written explanation, but I am fearful a "by the book" NVC agent might not care for an explanation and demand I get a sponsor, send me a checklist and hold up the process until I get one.

Anyone else been through this or can better explain what is best to do? Please advise.
