Hi VJ!

We are planning to take a trip back to my country Vietnam for a traditional wedding. I have a CR-1 visa for 2 years, it will expire in July. I will have to apply for 10 year visa in April (90 days before). What should I do?

- Should I take a trip in April or May? Will that be possible? Will I have to make an appointment with the local USCIS for my case and get approval?

- What paperwork I need to fill out?

- Should I take a trip after I get a GC for 10 years?

Thank you

Removal of conditions (10 year GC) takes like a year to get. Going to the office won't make it faster.

Take the trip whenever. Mail the application 90 days prior to your GC expiration (from wherever you are). Come back into the US well before your GC expires in July.

About a month after you file your I-751 you will get a letter saying your GC is extended for a year, until your 10yr GC arrives.

You don't have a CR-1 visa anymore, what you have is a green card with conditions. You won't be applying for a 10 year visa in April, you will be filing to remove the conditions on your residency.
