Has anyone assumed based on your skin color you're a thief? Or going to cause them bodily harm? Or my personal favorite, acting ghetto?

Marvin, maybe if you'd smile more, more people wouldn't be afraid of you.

I'm the friendliest racist you'll ever meet.

On a serious note, that's what pisses me off the most. The things I've mentioned are when I'm at my nicest. I speak different languages when I'm in other countries and am very friendly to relay that sense of ease. Sometimes it works, other times I get the oh you must be one of the good ones or that look of bewilderment when I speak Chinese or Korean to someone.

Nope, the evidence has been looked at by the justice department which was doing its absolute damndest to eviscerate Darren Wilson and it couldn't. Hands up don't shoot never happened, it was a myth.

As a black person, I can't think of one time my skin color has gotten me a job or any type of preferential treatment. On the contrary, I have to work harder to prove that I actually belong. If you have some, please post them.

I can't speak to your experience, but obviously affirmative action helps minorities in certain cases and limits non-minorities in the same scenario; two people exactly the same merits except one is a minority he can find himself because of his race elevated in rank above the other. Another example is that when a white person robs a store, hits the clerk, then assaults the cop and ends up dead he isn't martyred. As a non-black person I can't honestly say my race has gotten me a job, either; it's something I would just never know. If you're not hired because of your race no hiring manager is going to tell you that. I already said it's not equal, but there are scenarios in which privilege does swing to the other side.

As for the anecdotes, I know full well there are black people who survive their encounters with police officers, just like there are white people who have experienced police brutality. I'm talking about the consistent mistreatment of POC by police, which is way more than when dealing with white people as a whole.

I agree blacks are mistreated by police more than whites and the statistics are consistent on it.

I think Brown was a tragedy--not that he got killed for something that anybody of any race can expect to be killed over, but for being the face of police mistreatment of blacks. Eric Garner's death was a tragedy and he was murdered. The cop who did it should be in prison. Hands up don't shoot was a myth, "I can't breathe" wasn't. I don't know why that didn't get more traction. It was in a news a lot, but less than Brown. Perhaps because with video of the event it was impossible to create some ludicrous myth about a gentle giant who was mercilessly gunned down with his hands up.
In any case everybody is going to benefit from the much greater light being shone on police. I believe that a very sizable number of cops in the US should be out of work. A small minority are downright terrible people, but a much more significant number look the other way (they admit to this in polls of police--their words). I believe every cop in the US should have a body cam on at all times while dealing with people. But even with video there are lots of cases of cops getting away with murder (literally). We need to get rid of this notion of police policing themselves. It doesn't work and is inherently corrupt.

The JD showed tons of police corruption in Ferguson, but I'll concede since I don't know for sure either way.

As for AA, it's been shown that white women benefit from AA more than any other race of people.

Also, many studies show that having a ethnic sounding name is also a resume killer, so trust me, being a minority doesn't benefit me in that vein.

As for Brown and Gardner, I can explain why it didn't gain traction, black lives don't matter in the same vein as anyone else. If you think for one second that's not true, take a good look at what's happening in Chicago with Laquan Mcdonald. I agree that Brown wasn't the best candidate for the movement, but the way they treated his body and the amount of mistruths that got spread about Wilson didn't help the police either.

I do not see colour so I must be missing out on my white privilege.

What about color?

Not to be a jerk, but grammar is my thing

http://grammarist.com/spelling/color-colour/

Color vs. colour

Color and colour are different spellings of the same word. Color is the preferred spelling in American English, and colour is preferred in all other main varieties of English. The distinction extends to all derivatives of the word. Colored, coloring, colorer, colorful, and discolor are the U.S. spellings, and coloured, colouring, colourer, colourful, and discolour are preferred outside the U.S.
