Probably a dumb question but I am wondering if I can send a certified copy of the marriage certificate along with the translation or if I need to copy the original marriage certificate and get that translated. It probably sounds confusing, but I already have certified copies along with transactions. The only issues it that the certified copy does not look the same as the original.

you can send in certified copy with application

Be prepared to send in original with translation at the NVC stage / otherwise get yourself several originals

at the interview the paperwork is returned to you

Best of luck to you

Hi TylerTruc,

If you got the original marriage certificate translated in Vietnam, they usually provide a photocopy of the original marriage certificate along with the translated document. In addition, it would also include a red stamp that would be on each page certifying the document as well as the translated document. Basically, we sent a certified translated marriage certificate that included a photocopy of the original with the red stamp being on each page.

To be on the safe side, I would make sure that you got a photocopy of the marriage certificate submitted with your packet. If I am not mistaken the NVC only requires photocopies of the documents at this stage along with English translation if needed. Then, you are to present the original documents at the time of the interview at the consulate.

I hope that answered your question.

If anyone else can respond, it would help clarify the question at hand.

I was planning on sending a copy of the original as well. My marriage certificate and certified copies are from Long An province so it might be a little different. The main reason I am concerned is that the certified copies just don't look very professional or official like the original does. The red stamp certifying the translation is on my certified copy and my translated document. I think I will just photocopy the original and then take it and get it translated so that I can be 100% sure its ok.

Well I went to get a copy of the original translated today, but they told me the only translated the certified copies. So I am guessing that most people just send in the certified copies translated.
