Hello :) I'm just getting started in this process and can use all the advice that you all can give me. I am from the US and will be going to Lagos to meet my fiancée in person in Febuary. I began talking with him online in September and we talk almost daily on the phone. We started out as friends and fell in love in a short amount of time. Is it safe for me to start the filing process when I return from Lagos in Feb? Or will the consulate frown upon the amount of time that we have known each other? Also, my taxes will not reflect the proper amount this year as I took some time off work to spend with my newborn baby...my salary does exceed the poverty level now by about 5000 per year and has for about 6 months. Is it possible in Nigeria to use a co sponser or can I prove with the letter from employer and pay stubs that my income is over the limmit now??? Any help that you can give me is much appreciated :) Thank you in advance!!!

Is this the fist time you see each other in person? Make sure you take LOTS of photos together. In regards to your income its still early to be thinking about it. I think by the time you will need these documents a year would have already passed and you should be able to provide enough evidence to prove you can support him. But i'm no expert at the subject, you may want to get a second and third opinion.

Yes this is the first time I will see him in person. And probably the last before he gets his visa to come to the states. I have 2 small children and it was very difficult for me to find someone to watch them why I'm gone for a week to Lagos. I think you are right about the income. Thank you for answering and if you have any other info or advice for me please post :)

Take your time you are rushing things big time.

Where does Nicaragua come into this?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

My fiancée lives in Nigeria not Nicaragua. I understand that it appears that we are rushing into things quickly...but we are both Christians and believe in marriage. We are deeply in love and he is my soul mate. No amount of time or distance can change this. Thank you though for your opinion. Have a blessed evening ?

I would be surprised if you do not get the chance to meet more than once before the visa is issued.

Nigeria tends to be a rough consulate to get through especially if you have only met once. I would expect that they will want more than one short trip. Thirty days of face time seems to be the magic number

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
