I was talking to my husband and the topic of tax came up and he told me he filed single because i had no ssn and because his company filed from nov of 2014 and we got married dec 2014 so we were not married when he actually filed. Now i have read that it might cause problems later on and at the interview. He will b filing married this time around though for 2015.Can u please shed some light please.

That doesn't make sense. They don't accept tax return filings until January or February. Is he actually talking about the tax return?

If he filed the tax return with filing status Single, he filed tax wrong, and he needs to amend that ASAP, regardless of whether you are immigrating or not.

How do u go about amending it?

File 1040x and make sure you get the 2014 version from the IRS website.

If you now have SSN, he can file Married Filing Jointly for 2014 or he can file Married Filing Separately.

1040X doesn't go by years. You use the latest version and check the year 2014 at the top.

Use the proper year if you recalculate the return to get the differences needed for filling in the 1040X.
