Hi All -

My husband finally got his interview date last friday for January 8th 2016. We have been moving quickly to get the rest in order. Here is a little background: I live in the US, my husband is Mexican, we met here became friends he went back to Mexico and over time we became more than friends. We got married in Mexico last April and filed for the CR-1 Spouse Visa.

We have received the correspondence instructions and everything seems to be in order, but when we look at the information on NVC for his consulate office, there are some discrepancies:

1. In the Correspondence Instructions it says that he does not need to bring the Petitioner's (Me) Birth Certificate, however, when looking the CDJ PDF on NVC website, it says that he must bring the original birth certificate and copy of birth certificate of the petitioner. Which one should we follow, cause I have my BC here, he doesn't have an original. I can send a copy, but he still wouldn't have the original.

2. I paid the fees on the NVC website before I filed the DS-260. The correspondence instructions say that the fee has been paid, but the online pdf for CDJ, says that there is a fee of $269 that needs paid. Once again, which do we follow?

3. My husband has schedule his medical exam for the 6th of January. In reviewing online what the medical exam online, it doesn't say anything about the BioMetrics. The NVC site says that the BioMetrics exam will be scheduled for you. Will he get this done in Mexico or here once he comes to the US?

4. I was told by a friend who recently went through this that I would have to have a separate interview from my husband, but we haven't received any notification for my interview, only his. Should I be calling about this? My friend's husband was here for his interview and my husband is in Mexico, so does that make a difference and will my interview be later once he arrives?

I think that's all the questions for now. I am a little stressed because we have less than a month to get it all together. I just don't want to delay his approval and since it has been 8 months, I kind of want to see him! haha.

Thanks!

Answers:

  1. Follow the instructions you received in correspondence, not the PDF on the website.
  2. You paid the fee, disregard the online PDF for CDJ.
  3. It will be done before coming to the US. How it is done requires a Mexico specific answer.
  4. Your friend went through a different process. The Consulate is only interested in interviewing your husband, not you.

Thanks! All the different sources of information can be so confusing to sort through!

I guess I was just confused on what the difference between his medical exam and the biometrics. I was hoping they would do both at his scheduled appt. I want to make sure we have everything together.

There is no fee of $269

visa fee to be paid at approval of visa will be $165 and you pay online @ USCIS ELIS

I am sure you sent your BC in at time of application or it woukld have never gone to NVC

If approved for visa, they will do the Biometrics / usually at time of interview and approval / some of us have had to return at a later date as systems some of us have had to return for Biometrics at a later date as systems go down / have not heard of any problems in last few months.

Follow letter of instructions from NVC
